Getting a Great Screen on my new Comp

So since reading Jarred's recent article on the Dell Studio XPS 16 I've been realizing more and more that I'd like a better screen for my current computing experience (I have 2 laptops I use in different parts of the house but the one I'd be replacing would be a 3 yr old Dell E1505 Laptop with C2D 1.6Ghz, 2GB Ram, 60 GB, 15.4 probably 1280X800 res that I use for my home business; so it will ideally be the one I spend more time on then on my Gateway P-6831FX DTR Gaming machine assuming business keeps up).
I was just pricing that Studio XPS out and with these Specs it's gonna be $1,400 including tax:
SYSTEM COLOR Obsidian Black with Leather Accent
PROCESSOR Intel® Core? 2 Duo P8600 (3MB cache/2.4GHz/1066Mhz FSB)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-bit
OFFICE SOFTWARE Microsoft Works edit
WARRANTY AND SERVICE 1Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis edit
HD DISPLAY Edge-to-Edge FullHD Widescreen 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP edit
MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz (2 Dimms) edit
HARD DRIVE 320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive edit
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE 8X DVD+/- RW(DVD/CD read/write) Slot Load Drive edit
VIDEO CARD ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 3670 - 512MB edit
WIRELESS CARDS Intel® 5100 WLAN Wireless-N (1x2) Half Mini Card edit
SOUND OPTIONS High Definition Audio 2.0

Considering I'd be spending the $1400 on this comp and my past laptops I've been spending around $700-$900 max I've been considering just maxing out my comp experience with a nice Core I7 Nehalem Desktop and an accompanying Beautiful screen (in Jarred's article he mentions how the Studio's screen rivals some Desktop LCD Monitors but says there are some that will better it, so I would be curious to know what these best of the best are and how much they will likely cost. For example the latest system buying guide gives specs for a $1800 CoreI7 machine that I could see in my price range but I don't know how that 25.5 Asus LCD would be.

I honestly wouldn't need mobility for this computer as I have other laptop options, and the tasks I'm doing on the computer are not very spec intensive just lots of multitasking with basic programs(3 browsers with 20-50 tabs, Picasa, and maybe a few other small programs and maybe a little Photoshop at max), but my thought was that if I'm spending ~1.5k I may as well get the best system possible since I'm not moving this comp around at all.
So if anybody has any recommendations on this debate I'd appreciate it. I realize alot of this is probably personal preference, but the most helpful thing would likely be discussions of desktop LCD screens and how they would compare with the screen on the Studio XPS 16 in both quality and price terms as I'm not too informed about different LCDs.

i dont think most games would take advantage of i7 here is a discussion about it Text. but hands down: stand alone > laptop. even the 'best' laptops use tn panels. you can get much nicer lcds, ips etc
