Getting a gamecube... what games should I pick up?

Fenixgoon

I've played smash bros extensively, so that's *off* the list 😛

1st two games are Metroid Prime/Prime2

anyone else have suggestions?

GC games are pretty cheap... just load up on a bunch.

But here's some from the top of the list:

-Tales of Symphonia
-Legend of Zelda: Windwaker
-Metroid Prime 1 & 2
-Super Mario Sunshine
-Paper Mario: Thousand year door (edited for correct title name)
-Eternal Darkness

The thing about Gamecube is that only a few of the games are spectacular, but there are a LOT of cheap games that are above average. It's a lot like the Dreamcast was as it dwindled from existence. You can more or less pick up a handful of games for only a few bucks and they might not be the best, but you can always get more entertainment out of them for the price than you would if you went to the movies or something.

Eternal Darkness without question. Among the best games of all time.

Resident Evil 4, Skies of Arcadia (although just a rehashed Dreamcast game) are both excellent as well.

People seem to be in the habit of promoting non-GC games as GC games:
* Paper Mario is for the Nintendo 64 (and on Wii VC).
* Super Paper Mario is for the Wii.
* Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is for the Gamecube.

Injury's post basically sums it up, although I'd tack on Smash Bros Melee and Fire Emblem, personally.

I still have the game but no longer have a gamecube. I need to get another gamecube because this game is awesome.

Hasn't been mentioned yet:
Rogue Squadron (OMG get this, liek naow!)
Prince of Persia (the first one is the best, or so I've heard)
Soul Calibur II
Viewtiful Joe 1/2 (if you like HARD games)
Maybe Burnout 2 (haven't played it, only played Burnout 3 and 4, but those games were amazing)
Possibly something from the Need For Speed series (Underground 2 or Most Wanted are probably the best) (if you like racing and can put up with cheesy FMV cutscenes and people talking about "street cred")

2nded:
Both Zelda games (Wind Waker and Twilight Princess)
Both Metroid games
Resident Evil 4
Eternal Darkness
Mario Kart Double Dash
Super Monkey Ball 2

I didn't like but YMMV:
F-Zero (story mode is totally impossible even on the easiest difficulty, otherwise decent)
Resident Evil 1/REmake (OMG horrible camera angles + controls, they significantly detract from the game)
Super Mario Sunshine (just didn't keep me interested and I kept getting stuck, though I may have liked it if I had stuck with it a little longer)

If you don't pick up RE:4 you should be shot.

I HATE horror games and even I thought RE4 was phenominal. Definately need to pick it up.

Metroid Prime is good although I didn't think the 2nd game was nearly as well made, but 95% of people will play the 2nd if they played the 1st (me included). Not a bad game by any stretch of the mind but not up to par with the 1st.

Mario Kart: Double Dash was a major let down. MK64 is still by far the best MK game.

I gave my Gamecube away 2 days ago...owned it since...2002. I'd say my "must own" games are:

-Resident Evil 4
-Metroid Prime
-Tales of Symphonia (if you like RPG's, it's an interesting twist on the typical 1 button and wait for your turn game).
-SSX 3 (better than any of the other SSX games).
-Smash Bros (but you've already got it).
-LoZ: Twilight Princess
-Mario Power Tennis

Probably a few more that I can't think of off the top of my head...

*edit* forgot about the Viewtiful Joe games, fun and different!

Yeah, must agree with:

- Pikmin 1 & 2
- SMB 1&2
- Metriod Prime
- Burnout 2
- Mario Kart DD
- Ikaruga
- Viewtiful Joe 1&2
- SSX3 and Tricky
- Soul Caliber 2

I have all of those and more on cube. Should bust them out on the Wii from time to time.

I have Eternal Darkness, but it kinda lost me about 60% in. Am I weird?

GameCubes are a LOT cheaper than Wiis. The console itself only costs $50 (typical Buy It Now eBay prices), controllers are cheap ($15-$25 each depending on if you get used or new and if they're official Nintendo or third-party), games are cheap (many excellent ones are $5 or less, and even the most expensive ones are $30), it's easy to get one (no camping out on Sunday morning), and they're super durable (just haul it around wherever, and even if it does break it's cheap to replace).

You could get an excellent GameCube setup for under $100, or a truly pimped out 4-player rig for $200. That's quite a bit less than the base price of a Wii.

Not that I'm knocking the Wii - I have one and I love it - but there are plenty of reasons to get a GameCube.
