getting a domain name?

My friend and I are starting a webpage (for a project for school to store all of our stuff). We have it finished, and my friends bro is setting us up with some webspace. So all we need is a domain name and he'll let us use his space (right now its on www.nexuswebs.net temporarily)

Where can we register one? And how much does it cost? My friend found one place for $7.20/year. I really have no clue where to look.

So RossMAN (or anyone else), know any good places for me to get a domain name?
