Im just curious, what is involved in getting a CCW permit? I'm sure it varied by state; does anyone know how it works for NY? Is it even allowed? What justification do you need? How old do you need to be (I'm assuming 21?) and how does this work in terms of being in public... for example, if you have this permit can you ride public transportation while carrying said 'concealed weapon' ? I don't mean this in any bad way at all but I have wondered about it.

Thanks!

It does vary state by state. It may even vary by county. Some states you can't get one apparently. I think I heard that New York is one of the more difficult states.

I'm pretty sure its universal that you have to be 21. In PA, I had to fill out an application with 2 references (no family, must live in different households, and must be in same county) and give them a photo of yourself. They check up on you and call your references.
Took about 3 weeks to get mine.

I don't see a problem carrying on public transportation but I'm not sure. I haven't read up on that because I never use public transportation.

check packing.org, their info is usually pretty good.

I second reading up on your particular state and laws there. You will get a wide range of 'advice' on a forum, both good and bad... You are going to get more accurate and relevant info at the packing.org website.
