Getting a car

I've narrowed down my choices between two cars.

2004 Nissan Sentra S 1.8L
2005 Kia Optima 2.4L

Roughly the same price and miles. The kia comes with a better warantee, but I like the styling and ride of the Nissan better. Any opinions? I'm just looking for a good used low miles economy car to get me through college.

Nissan will most likely be more reliable down the run so the warranty won't be as necessary..

And the Kia is rated at 22/30mpg, while the Sentra is at 28/35 which should make quite a difference in that price range.

1) Buy a beater
2) Learn to fix it
3) ...
4) Profit?

If you're just looking to get through college, I'd get an older (90's) car personally.

Subaru + 20 year old = $$$ Insurance $$$

You know I'm really leaning toward the Nissan myself, but my dad thinks the whole warranty deal is just the greatest thing in the world from kia and he's co-signing for me too.

I drive a 1991 Buick Regal right now and it's on it's last legs and I don't feel like spending hundreds or thousands to fix it or to learn to fix it. I had a 1990 Lebaron and the transmission needed to be rebuilt. Early 90's cars don't realy do it for me and I think there's a curve where you spend money and I think around 10,000 is perfect for something with around 20,000 miles, only 1 year old, and is very reliable and practicle.

I'd probably go with the Sentra between those two, but I don't think that the Optima would be a bad car. I just know that the Sentra is pretty good overall--it's comfortable, quiet, and smooth, with very good economy and a nice interior. Before you go for the Optima, make sure that the 100,000 mile warranty is fully transferable to a second owner. It may not be.

Yes the Optima's warranty is transferable but it is only a 60,000 mile warranty. These cars are both at dealers so they are the ones honoring the warranty.
