Getting a car from the grandfather, should I get it checked out or do anything?

So my grandmother and grandfather are moving from their house and into a retirement style community where they will need only 1 car. I have been lucky enough to receive my grandfathers 96 Acura RL with around 60k miles on it. It runs fine, should I spend some $$ to get stuff checked out for any problems or just go along with regular maintenance. I'm fairly cheap (and didn't own a car nor make much money and thus why I figure i'm the relative he chose to give the car)

Should be fine, instead of paying someone to check it out, learn to do some regular maintanence like spark plugs, cap, rotors, brake fluid, transmission fluid, coolant, etc. It is not hard and should be cheap to do yourself.

I wouldn't do the timing belt myself though, lots of tools involved.
