Curious what I should buy.

[*]I'd like it to have around 15ms or less response time due to I am a gamer when I am not coding.
[*]Good warranty (with dead pixels included)
[*]Doesn't need to be too cheap, willing to pay around $800 max.
[*]And of course, I would like it to be sharp as possible, as my eyes are beginning to dislike CRT and that is mainly why I am interested in a LCD monitor.
[*] It needs to be 1280x1024, I won't push it higher. (text gets too small)

Thank you for your suggestions.

New question:

I found that my father has a business client that works for Sony that can get us a really good deal. What Sony LCD monitor has a 16ms or less response time? I cannot seem to find one that is in the 18-21" range. I guess I'll go with 17" if I have to, but I really would like larger.

Please suggest any Sony LCD monitors that have 16ms response time or less, thank you!

The AG Neovo E19-A gets great reviews, and you can get it at your local CompUSA. It has a plastic cover and is supposed to have great contrast.

Though it is a 1600x1200 LCD, so using it with 1280x1024 will make the screen look odd.

1280x1024 looks odd regardless, because the screen measures 4:3 and you're forcing a 5:4 resolution into it. in fact, 1280x1024 should be banned.

1280x1024 18" LCD = 1600x1200 20" LCD

so.... I would say Dell 2001FP! I have it, it is the best computer purchase I've made.

Actually, I just bought a Samsung 172x, and it's one of the few LCD Moniters out there right now with a 12ms response time.

So far, I've played Unreal Tournament, Hitman Contracts, and Vice City on it, and I must say each game looks frickkin awesome!

I'm very happy with it, but it was a tad on the expensive side ($545), and it is a 17", which is fine for me, but if ya need something bigger, then yea, go with the Dell.

Oh and native resolution is also 1280x1024

all 1280x1024 LCDs have square pixels and are physically 5:4. there is nothing wrong with 1280x1024 on an native 1280x1024 lcd.

I have one of those. It's fantastic. Incredibly bright, sharp and contrasty, no dead pixels, backlighting is smooth and even. Extremely cool looking and well made. It's also the first LCD I've ever used that was worth a damn for photo work.

Your basically 'screwed' on the dead pixels issue. If you get from a B&M store you have some return on it. Even then some won't take it back but some will. But online and you have not much in the way you return it.

Unless it is band on in the middle.

Most quote a least 3-5 or so.

I have a 23" 16:10 Sony looks great.

Well I about £2100 thats about $3.3k or so. The £ kills the $ and was so at the tiem I bought my screen. About 17months ago.

Hell I'd get it for less if I could but stuff in England is pricey :(

Wow, you had to pay that much more for it? That kinda sucks. Wouldn't it have been cheaper to order it from here?

Seriously looking at this monitor. Pic quality is very important. I was concerned about warranty tho since they say to take it back to the store first. I have been saved by some very good crossship warranties, but monitors seem to go quite easily over the past few yrs and they sure ain't cheap. If this model were to go you would have to do w/o it since they don't cross ship. The dell model is bigger than I need. It also doesn't talk about warranty and many have complained about the screen door look to screen and manufacturing defects. There is a review of the neovo model that shows a pic of the screen and I was impressed how readable the screen was from a web image. NE has this model for 639 which is a great price compared to others. I haven't seen it on compusa's site so I will call the store across town to see if they have any. I would like to see a review of this model on anandtech. It really is annoying having to replace monitors, they don't do well when ran all the time.

For the neovo info asked about. I believe http://www.neovo-usa.com has all the specifics on their products.

Yeah, first thing I check with LCD monitors is warranty. If no warranty is offered, I walk.

Btw I still haven't found an LCD monitor that would fit my needs yet.
