Getting 1.6A over 2.4Ghz??

What does it take to run 1.6A over 2.4Ghz... I mean, reliabily over 2.4Ghz...

Mine runs 6 hours of prime95 on 150fsb and 4:5 memory setting on default voltage
without problems...
But as soon as I set fsb higher than 150... prime95 will not last over 5 mins (even if I set the memory
down to 1:1)???

I also saw in the BIOS (or Asus utilities) that mentioned my CPU has a max speed of 2400mhz??
On top of that.. heard many things about P4 wire trick?? But can't find articles on it anywhere?
Anyone know the link to the wire trick article(s)??

Without knowing your motherboard model, cooling or memory, this will be a shot in the dark. But, your first effort should be to increase the voltage of your CPU by 0.05 or so above default. Go up to 1.65 incrementally as needed to try it out. Your memory might work better if set on 1:1, rather than the higher speed 4:5 during these trials, again depending on your memory specs. Also as you increase voltage and speed, your power supply rail voltages become more important. You have not listed your power specs. You might want to check out the threads about the Asus P4B266-C, posts by Thugsrook (outstanding help), and P4s533, P4s333 for for hints.

What is "rail" voltage?? The 12volt?

Sorry.. these are my specs..

1.6A 512 NW,
Asus P4S533 (1006),
Corsair XMS PC2700 512 MB

Idle:
========
~11.9v
~1.52v (cpu, already over 1.5??)
memory set a default 2.5v with jumper

Load:
=======
~11.7-8v
~1.48-1.50v

Well you have good memory. May want to increase your memory voltage. The Asus P4S333 had a jumper on the mobo that would increase from default of 2.5 to 2.7 and finally 2.9. I don't know if the P4S533 has it though.

You have great memory; it will not hold you back at most settings. You have a great chip and motherboard combination.
Forget about your power supply for the time being; just go into your BIOS as your machine boots and change the chip's voltage up by some increment. Its default is 1.50 v and you should first set it to say, 1.60 v. Try over 150 again.
If fails, go to 1.65v and try again. I don't believe that you need to look for that motherboard jumper until you have reached 1.70v; but, I may be wrong there. Any greater than 1.70v and you are risking burning your house down.
Check out that link that I posted earlier, it is full of folks doing what you are doing with a lot of advise.

I give up... I tried 1.675 and 1.65 and from FSB of 160 to 155 to 153...
it doesn't run prime95 for more than 10mins...
(Though I boot into WinXP just fine...and can run Sandra)
All these time memory is set to 1:1 which is well below what it can do...
Temp never got above 42 before it dies. .

Anyways...
one thing bothers me... I have Antec 300W psu... the 12v always read below 12
from Asus Probe... (~11.9 to 11.7???) but my vcore always read above then what I set it
to in BIOS... from 1.52 to 1.71 (when I set it to 1.675)...

JTKGY i will be testing a new 550W PSU to see if my 430W is a limitaion for me @ 2800mhz. i know it sounds crazy but its true ;)
if my tests pan-out, it will mean 430W is only good for a maximum of 2700mhz.
it will also mean 300W PSUs should be avoided completely.

I agree with Thugsrook that it is probably your power supply that is the culprit holding you back. It directly controls what your power rails are capable of supplying to the CPU and memory. I admit that I am running FSB 150 with a P4a 1.6 o'clocked to 2.4GHz with a 300W Antec power supply (PP303X)...but its specs are reasonably good +5=30 and +12=10 and +5vsb=2A. So I would also avoid completely 300W power supplies when attempting major overclocks. And if I were you I would go for a 430W or 550W power supply as my next overclocking step. (Besides, you have elminiated all the other possibilities).

I think I dont need the wire trick right?
My p4s533 will let me set vcore above (or up to) 1.80...

Or am I missing something.

I don't think you need it...if your MB does let you run vcore up to 1.80v...but if you do try the wire trick...make sure you are using a GOOD cooling system on your CPU...cause my voltage meaning higher temp...
www.virtual-hideout.net has an article on wire trick under P4 overclocking Part 2...but i can't seem to get the link up...they explained pretty much everything you need for overclocking further up the spectrum...

I think it's your PSU. I have an Antec 300 watt PSU and I'm at 150FSB, 1:1 memory, Turbo1, 1.6v core and if I try to go any higher I cannot run Prime95 for very long without a bluescreen. I am also seeing around 11.25v on the 12v rail at idle and down around 11v under full load. My next upgrade is a 520watt PSU with which I think I can hit what THUGS is hitting, oe even higher maybe with the added power. The chip just drains too much power from a 300watt PSU at anything about 150FSB (2.4Ghz) and 1.6v.

Dump your 300W power supply and upgrade to a higher wattage. Try again. Eventually something will either work... or blow up. Then you have a great opportunity to start over again.
