So like many folks - I intend to get sloppy on the egg nog.

What are everyones favorite alcohol to put in the nog? I've been drinking the stuff virgin for a couple weeks now, it will soon be time to get smashed on it.

Post recipes, drink variations, ideas, etc.

I tend to prefer scotch or a whisky, but I'm completely open to ideas. Is there one particular kind of alcohol that is traditionally added?

Most people add rum. I had a couple of glasses of the old nog yesterday with some friends, and a good time was had by all.

I like to add Brandy or Rum. Or get really crazy with it and add both with just a slight topping of nog :p

 I've used Jack Daniels (although its not actually a bourbon), but I'm going to try Maker's Mark this year.

Do you realize how much fat that stuff has in it?

That said, I think brandy is the preferred spirit to add to egg nog.

So are you waiting for the family get together to finally get wasted on the nog? That would be classy!

We had eggnog with Advocaat in it last year and that was pretty good, though a little redundant I suppose.

Makers is alright, if it's going in nog or getting mixed with coke they start to taste the same. I like Weller's and Old Forester for bargain mixing.

"Do you realize how much fat that stuff has in it? "

Yup, thus the holiday "spread".

I thought of rum, but figured that was a rather generic spirit more suited to pina colada or cokes.

Brandy would be very nice methinks - and I think that is the traditional ingredient. Peppermint schnapps! WOW! never thought of that!

So I think a bottle of makers, some Bacardi white, E&J, and maybe a cheap single malt scotch, and the peppermint schnapps to round it out - and I have myself and all my relatives a good ole fashioned drunkmas.

Me trying to outdrink aunt April will be the highlight of the evening.

It's traditionally brandy/bourbon. I bought some store stuff, I've been highly considering just gettin a little bottle of maker's for it.

I actually don't like alcohol in my egg nog. I never liked sweet + alcohol. I love egg nog though and will drink a half gallon of it easily.

brandy > bourbon > dark rum > irish > spiced rum

i've never wasted scotch on egg nog, and 'decent' brandy is less than half the price of makers mark

My families recipe is is to cut 1/2 gallon egg nog with 1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream and 3/4 cup each of brandy, bourbon and dark rum

I never do rum, only brandy or bourbon. I like it with bourbon, but most people prefer brandy.
