The inexpensive home wireless routers at the top of the list seem to be the WRT54G, WRT54GS (probably not worth the added price), and Dlink DI-624. Some like the SMC 2804 but I have heard many complaints about how much heat it puts out and early deaths, while other's swear by its performance (this one has dual antenna). I would prefer the WRT54G because of the dual antenna and both are detachable, the Dlink has just one antenna. And don't count out the Microsoft MN-700, which was discontinued awhile back but is still out there (eBay $35), can be had for less than either the Linksys or the Dlink but it won't have as strong of a wireless signal compared to the WRT54G/GS. I don't think I would buy another Netgear router. The cool thing with the WRT54G is that there is new firmware out there created by a group of people, Sveasoft, which give the WRT54G many more capabilities and ALSO allows for a big increase in power output that the wireless portion produces (which could come in real handy for long distances or lots of thick walls). At the factory they have to comply with regulations that say that the wireless device can only produce so much amplitude of signal to the rest of the world so they are detuned. With that firmware you supposedly can boost the signal strength quite a bit over standard/stock. The WRT54GS I read also has this capability with the new 3rd party produced firmware.
