Hey everyone!

I've got a friends hard drive that was toasted...apparently by a virus?? see this forum Link for more info.

Anyway, I was trying to find a good program for recovering her data (it's been trashed somehow - maybe virus, so I needed a program that could do a *thorough* job of restoring data), and came across GetDataBack from Runtime.org.

This program seems to be doing the trick, although I can only *see* potentially recoverd files, until I buy a license, which costs $80.

Do y'all think this program is worth the money? Any better suggestions out there?

Thanks,

Ran

Dunno, R-Studio stuff has worked well for me. It's expensive IIRC.

If it shows you the file, and says it's intact, and your friend's data is actually worth $80.... I'd go for it. I don't think I personally have any data worth that much, but I'm sure some people do :).

Thanks for the response Ctho9035!

Any others? I'm also trying out Restorer2000 from bitMart.net...seeing how well that works, as it costs 1/2 as much ($40).....

I've used GetDataBack a few times on customers systems and it's definitely worth the money. It's worked 100% flawlessly every time I've used it (at least 3-4). There may be cheaper stuff out there, but this came highly recommended to me and I've had excellent results with it.

Edit - BTW, I'm not talking about just gettting back files that were inadvedrtantly deleted from the Recycle Bin, I'm talking about getting data off of formatted partitions and HDD's that are starting to fail. These are the circumstances I've used it under.

Thanks for the replies again!

After surveying several programs, I'll have to concur with RalfHutter that GetDataBack was the best of the bunch. It was able to successfully recognize and recover about 80% of my friends data...a good success rate, in my book. And yes, Ralfhutter, I had a similar situation dealing with potentially bad sectors plus a reformat/reinstall of the OS..which didn't work anyway, apparently.

Thanks a bunch!
