this or nikon D800? one has more MP, one has more AF points, actually, it sounds like to me that Nikon has everything the Mark 3 has, but more... (With more MP)

Oooooh! I feel the gnawing pangs of technolust. Too many lenses to mess with Nikon. :)

i read the post as the launch date having a [CR3] rating but not necessarily the specs.

specs as written are interesting with it appearing to have the 1X's AF module. that didn't seem like where canon was heading with its product differentiation. i'd also expect more MP than the specs as written. maybe not 36, but, you know, moar.

Its going to have to be really really really good to make me not buy a used 5d2.

5D2 + 7D will be plenty for me, this will be $5000NZD!

IMHO, it all depends on your need, and higher MP doesn't mean that it is better if the quality isn't there.

That said, I would like to have real world performance and tests before I can make the call on the 5D mkIII and D800.

If you are hell bent on get the best to brag then it is best to become a Hasselblad head and wait for the H4D-200MS at 200MP, or a Seitz 6x17. Or, Phase One IQ camera if you are into action.

5D 2 still will retain ~ 22MP... won't go for that super dense sensor that is the D800...

I'd say, DO NOT get the 5D 2. Coming from a Nikon D300 to a 5D Mark 2, 50% of my shots are in focus (well, perfect focus) as opposed to 80-90% of my Nikon D300. I have the 24-70 f/2.8, 17-40L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS version 2, and it just seems that the Mark 2 struggles with AF. Mark 3 I hear, will be fully weather sealed, 61 pt AF.

They really worked on the AF with the MK3... which is most important to me.

The 5D2 has the same AF as the 5D original, right?

The $3500 price dampers my mood...hopefully that is with the kit lens and body only will be somewhere around $2700...

at $3500 it's actually less yen than the 5D2 when it came out. $2699*107 = 288793, compared to $3500*81.1 = 283850
