I'm making a C2D system but plan on getting the cpu in April when prices will drop and was wondering if I should wait on the vid card too. There are some good deals on 7600GT cards now(sub $100) but I'm afraid that when I get the cpu, the next level of cards will have their prices dropped too if a new card is introduced. Anyone know what the market looks like for that time or what I should do? Thanks

This is easy, wait till you NEED the part before you buy it. Prices will be lower.

By the time April rolls around, new GPU refreshes and releases should be out from both camps and the dust should be settling. You'll have plenty of choices and price war benefits.

My instinct is to wait but unlike the cpu, I haven't heard about anything happening in the vid card market around that time. Anyone heard some news?

:Q You should spend some more time browsing the recent topics in this forum

March Madness is approaching, just like it tends to do... ATi's R600 is coming down the pike, along with a likely plethora of new 8x00 series GPUs from nV. It should be a very interesting month.

you should wait for vid card because DX10 will be hitting mainstream and also DX9 cards will become more cheap.

What with midrange G80s and the R600 coming along, going for a 7600gt is just daft if you don't plan on using it for a few months.

OK, so there is new stuff slated to come out soon. Thats what I was wondering about since new stock causes price drops on older stuff. Thanks.

BTW, I am always seeing articles about intel and amd price drops but never anything for vid cards and other hardware. Anyone seen any estimated price drop articles?

articles ... no

generally ATi has been overstocked the last few years so their price drops tend to be more *severe*... otoh, nvidia controls their stock more closely ...

watch here and in Hot Deals closely just before you will buy

April should be a very good month for new videocards

... hopefully
