You have to sign up online or by phone. Goes from April through June. $1500 purchase limit (some stores let you get up to $50 cash back w/purchases which is processed as a credit charge.)

http://www.discovercard.com/discover/data/cashback/cbbpromotion.shtml

"During April, May and June, Discover® Platinum and Classic Cardmembers who participate in Cashback Bonus® Programs can get up to 10% back on qualifying grocery purchases. You?ll keep earning up to 2% back on other purchases, too.

You need to sign up in the Account Center to get this special award or call 1-800-475-9161. Then, pay with your Discover Card and we?ll credit your special Cashback Bonus award to your Cashback Bonus Account. But remember, you have to sign up to receive this special award.

Cardmembers enrolled in this offer will receive up to 10% Cashback Bonus award on grocery purchases and up to 2% Cashback Bonus award on other purchases when cash award is exchanged for up to double the amount in certificates from our Cashback Bonus Partners. Cardmembers receive a cash award of up to 1% of each purchase based on annual level and type of purchases, plus Cardmembers enrolled in this special offer will receive an additional Cashback Bonus award of 4% of each purchase made with the Card between 04/01/04 or the date on which the Cardmember enrolls in this offer, whichever is later, through 06/30/04 at qualifying grocery stores, subject to a cap of $1500 in grocery purchases. Only Discover Platinum and Classic Cardmembers who participate in the Cashback Bonus program are eligible for this offer. Cashback Bonus redemptions available in $20 increments.

Not valid for grocery/food purchases made at Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets, specialty food stores, convenience stores, gas stations, warehouse clubs, supercenters or discount stores."

Sweet, thanks! Note it's really 5% back unless you use your bonus on one of their "double value" things. Note also that it's not retroactive - i.e. you have to sign up before anything counts towards the extra 4%.

Awesome deal though!

hmm wonder if safeway takes discover yet

Never knew they didn't take discover. I know they don't take AMEX. Macy's doesn't take Discover either because Discover used to be part of Sears.

BTW, while it doesn't state it in the fine print, I know that the Kroger stores in the Houston area do not have the cashback agreement with Discover. They stopped it some time ago. Not sure how it will impact this deal, but my guess is that if you shop at Krogers, like me, then you will not get the 5% cash back.

From the fine print: "Offer applies to grocery purchases that are submitted to Discover Card under Merchant Category Code 5411."

I looked at my statement and I have several purchases at Albertsons, Publix, and Winn-Dixie listed under "Supermarkets". Do the Kroger ones list that way on yours? I don't find any references to "Code 5411." I tried calling to find out how we know if it is a 5411 purchase, but all I got was recorded info that didn't explain. Maybe tomorrow.

yup signed up,
but if I am not mistaken I saw a fine print at supported outlets only to get 10% cashback,

Since this is actually a 5% deal (see post above) with a $150 limit, why not go for the Citibank Dividend Platinum Select Mastercard? The Citi card is 5% back on Grocery store, gas station and pharmacy purchases (Discover is only on Grocery) and has a $300 annual limit. Also, the Discover deal appears to only apply during April, May and June. The Citi card is unilmited. (Use the forum search to find other posts about the Citibank Dividend Platinum Select Mastercard).

(I got the Citi card last week. It has no annual fee and 9.9% APR.)

Sorry, but I could not get a clean link directly to the info page for the card. Follow this Linky and then find the card under the "Reward Cards" category.

I prefer my Citbank Drivers Edge that gives me 2% toward an auto purchase. (max $500/year, 3years max) Between needing 2 cars (one for me/one for the wife), that's a new car every 6 years. Normally they only give 1%, but I was a charter member and get 2% 😀

Even so, I decided to start using my Discover card again with this deal. 3 months of grocery's should give me time to get a couple $40 gift cards. 10% is much better than 2%

of course everyone knows that signing up for this will get you boatloads of spam... even if you have asked discover to remove you from their lists. this 'promotion' is an excuse to buffer-up their mailing and email lists to sell them to other companies.

i got in for the 2% many years ago also. the problem is though i dont know when i'm getting a car as i'm still a college student. the funds are locked up until i do get a car (at $273 now ... if i do my math right that means ive spent a boatload of $) which is why i'm considering other options like ff mile cards now.
