KITTANNING, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A 4-year-old girl who weighed 11.5 pounds when her body was found in a picnic cooler behind her home died of malnutrition and dehydration, an autopsy shows.

Armstrong County Coroner Robert Bower released the autopsy results Sunday for Kristen Tatar, confirming initial findings that the girl suffered from malnutrition, dehydration and neglect.

Kristen's body was found in the cooler Thursday as state police and child welfare officials searched the home in Parks Township, about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Officials have said they believed the girl had been dead for weeks.

The cooler had been wrapped in garbage bags and placed in a trash can near a shed in the back yard, authorities said.

James Tatar, 41, and Janet Crawford, 35, were being held without bond in the girl's death. A preliminary hearing for the couple was scheduled for Thursday.

Police said the couple had been acting as Kristen's parents, but that they didn't know if either adult was her biological parent.

Authorities said the girl was kept in a bedroom away from the rest of the family and neighbors told police they never even knew the couple had a daughter.

Edited: to end the confusion on weight

~55 lbs (111/2 = 55.5) or 11.5 lbs? Not sure how healthy 55 lbs is, but I know at 4 years old 11.5 lbs is deadly thin...yeah, go kick his ass.

Jesus Christ...
If ever there were an exception to the cruel and unusual amendment, I think this is it. :Q :disgust:

Give them both a load of birdshot up the ass and let them lay in the hot sun to die. I sometimes hate the human race.

There's the solution, I agree.

At the very least, these people should all be neutered or otherwise sterilized, and forbidden to EVER be near children.

I have no sympathy for one who kills a child. If convicted, they certainly deserve a fitting punishment. It would be severe by my standard.

They didn't kill her, they just let her die. That's much worse. Ugh.

After reading that article I stared at the wall for a moment imagining myself locking my 7 year old son in a room, neglecting him, and letting him die a slow death of starvation.

I couldn't take such thoughts for very long before choking back a sob and supressing the urge to vomit.

I guess it's because I love him too much to do such a thing. But even if it were a child I didn't love, I still can't imagine doing this.

Maybe it's because I have a conscience? Do you think this is why people do things like this to children? Were they not born with a conscience that tells them their actions are cruel and dispicable?

Just look at that guy's picture. What a scum!

I don't necessarily believe in the Christian concept of good and evil (God vs. Satan) but I do believe in the existence of evil. Evil must be the abscence of a conscience.

Stringing him up would be too easy. A slow, painful death would be more appropriate in this situation.

Poor child... :( What a sad, horrible life she must have led for four years... hopefully she's in a better place now.
