get rid of XP popup warning?

I've got a USB2 memory stick and have no upfront USB2 ports. I do have a USB1 upfront so I use that (Im using small files on it so the speed doesn't bother me). Each time I plug it in, XP gives me a popup warning in the corner about using a USB2 device on a USB1 connection. How can I stop this warning? This is a htpc so I don't want windows popups showing up over my HTPC interface!

Thanks!

Well, the obvious answer is to get a cheap USB2 card and 5.25" breakout box for the front that has USB2.

As for the popup warning, I don't know how to disable that off hand. But, you might want to workaround it by getting a free utility that keeps whatever application (like a TV tuner app) on top of all other programs.

"Nail It" will allow you to "nail" any application to the forefront of your monitor. I'm sure there are others.
Here's one place to download it from: Nail It

Works fine in XP, 98, etc.

The idea here by using this is that the popups will still occur, but will be hidden behind other applications.

My TV tuner app already has a built-in "keep on top" option. Maybe yours does, too.

Well, neither of those will help at work where I have the same problem. There it's less of an annoyance, but still there. In that case I have no front ports and only 2 rear, so I've got a hub (but it's only usb1 cause I'm cheap 🙂)

You can't stop the usb popup. it's built into windows and can't be shut off. the usb 2 card is your only real option.
As for being cheap, you can buy one for as little as $5.00 at most any local computer store. but i would splurge
and spend alittle more and buy a brand name for about $10.00 to $20.00.
Your problem is solved.

Thank you, my good sir, for posting that link! Every time I see that warning I just want to say "Yes I know! And I don't care!!!" Time to do a little...work...hmm.
Well, it appears that Microsoft has some work to do:
"If you turn off this option, all other USB error messages are also turned off. "

Peachy. So if there's a short in the USB plug, Windows will not tell you "Power surge detected." I guess Microsoft doesn't have a place to submit product suggestions? That "Hi-speed USB device plugged into non-hi-speed USB hub" thing is more like a notification anyway, not an error. A short though - that can qualify as an error.

Ah, there it is - the suggestion box.

Edit: ok, suggestion has been submitted.
