"JEDEC Announces Key Attributes of Upcoming DDR4 Standard"

Voltage standard to be 1.2v which means OCZ will be heavily rebating 1.5v kits. 😵 Get ready for the RMA threads.

Edit 1:
Why do we have YAOCZHT (yet-another-OCZ-hate-thread) masquerading as a JEDEC DDR4 standards thread?

I'll leave the decision to lock the thread up to the specific sub-forum moderators, but I am heavily leaning towards locking it.

OP - clean up your OP and get rid of the superfluous anti-OCZ rants, stop derailing your own thread which is supposedly about JEDEC DDR4, and I won't lock it when I come back through this evening. Otherwise...

Edit 2:
Per post #6 in this thread, the OP's opportunity to clean up their act (and their thread) has expired. Thread closure now commencing.

If anyone else wants to open a legitimate thread regarding "JEDEC DDR4" please feel free to do so (it won't be locked as a repost) but please look to this thread as a reminder of what NOT to do with your thread.

Why would this move to offer rebates on 1.5v kits, in light of the new DDR4 memory standard approaching, be limited only to OCZ? Won't all the major memory manufacturers be offering rebates?

I actually am not sure I agree that rebate offers on 1.5v memory will be spurred on because of the JEDEC DDR4 announcement. DDR3 should remain mainstream for at least a couple of more years. Heavy rebating and discounts on memory have, from what I can see, already gone into full effect. It is my understanding that the low prices on memory right now are because of too much supply and not enough demand due to the rise in popularity of tablets versus new PCs.

I fear that if current DDR3 memory prices drop any lower I will end up purchasing a Happy Meal at McDonalds and opening up my lunch only to find a 16GB DDR3 memory kit as the free toy inside.

The current market prices for memory per gigabyte seem to be at an incredible historic all-time low which compels me to purchase even more than I need just in case things change. 6 months ago I was patting myself on the back for purchasing 8GB of DDR3 at $99. Now you can get 16GB for the same price which, again, compels me to purchase even more. My only fear now is that in 6-months a 16GB kit of DDR3 will be $50, and 6 months later, the free-prize in the McDonalds Happy Meals. What do I do ? 😀

:\ Given their history, OCZ will surely come out with overvolted DDR4 kits.
And also given their history, they should sweeten these overvolted kits with Tons-O-Rebates.

Remember, we're talking here about DDR4 not anything else.

😛 Tells how important OCZ is to me.

"OCZ will fully support customers who have purchased the company's memory modules. Lifetime warranties will be honored with replacement modules, credit toward other OCZ products, or refunds at "fair market value"

Fair market value of componets that's plummeting in price. Sounds sweet for OCZ warranty dept.

DDR4 standard being announced will not cause any shifts in DDR3... because a standard is not products. It will be some years before we actually have product. For one thing we will need new CPUs with a DDR4 controller, also new mobos.
RAM is suffering heavily from market oversaturation, DDR3 saved the manufacturers when DDR2 was over-saturated to the point where they literally couldn't sell (the manufacturers, not stores... stores were unloading product at a lost though just to get inventory down). I still remember buying 2x2GB of DDR2 for 15$, ad 15-20$ being the norm... then price went back up to about 80$ as the market stabilized (and one of the only 5 manufacturers of chips in the world went bankrupt). DDR3 was key in saving their bacon, and if we don't get DDR4 soon I expect they will see something similar happen with DDR3 over saturation.

today announced selected key attributes of its widely-anticipated DDR4 (Double Data Rate 4) standard. With publication forecasted for mid-2012
Whoops, they didn't publish DDR4 standard they revealed key attributes of the standard which will be published mid 2012...
So, I predict we will be able to actually BUY a DDR4 system in... ~2015?
@Idontcare, how many years do you think it will be? You are the one with all the technical experience in the industry.

Once again, I don't get all the OCZ hate. I have multiple of the following still running strong 24/7/365 :
DDR2 kits, DDR3 kits, StealthXstream PSUs, ModXstream PSUs, Vertex 2 SSDs

2yrs minimum before you are able to buy anything with DDR4.

3yrs before you'll want to (cost and platform bugginess are out of the way).

4yrs before it becomes reasonable/practical to do so (performance in real apps actually delivers a benefit over DDR3).
