I think a lot of people know about Dish Network's $199 rebate for new customers. I found an online retailer dbs-sales.com and if you get the 3922/2800 two receiver system, it's $79 and then minus the $199 rebate. I think Dish Network's rebate thing can be trusted.

Anyone have dish network? How's the quality?

System is great - get the Dish500 system - More channels included with your package.
Only problem I have had is that it has problems with strong weather patterns - goes out for awhile.

41$ per month for at least 12 months to qualify, penalty would be 240$ if cancelled before 12 months of continuous subscription...

you need to pay 200$ upfront, plus the 79 S&H fee...
have to activate it within 30 days of shipment received...
they will refund your 199$ after like 2 months...
change program incurrs a 5$ processing fee pre incidence...

you may have one movie package plus TOP100 (a mandatory) for 42$
TOP150 has no movie premium channels...

great service i'd say, top quality, PSYCAS is right, very weather sensitive - wind, fog, heavy rain...

I ordered the Dishplayer 7222 system a few weeks ago from dbs-sales.com and just got it hooked up this weekend - it's great! I think their price has gone up by $10 or so, but here's what I got:

Dishplayer 7222 (includes 17GB harddrive for tivo/replaytv-like recording, dolby digital out, s-video out) $19.95
Shipping + free install kit $19.95

Total = $38.90 (minimum 9 months of Top 50 programming at $21.99/month, or prepay for a year and get 1 month free)

Then, if you agree to a higher level of programming (Top 100 at $30.99/month + enough to get total to $39.98/month or more (I added my locals for $5/month, plus superstations (WB & UPN) for $2.99 plus PBS for $1 = $39.98, but you could also do some premium channels to get the total high enough) you get a $199 mail-in rebate!

In order to use it like a tivo, you have to pay another $10/month, but that's the same as tivo I guess.

I ordered through www.dishusa.com and received my 4922 system pretty promptly. It was $50, if I remember right, and the $200 rebate came in the mail from Dish Network within 2 months. Also had 3 months of all premium movie packages for free. But for the $200, I have a one year commitment of $40 service (or better) per month. After one year I can drop it down a bit.

Here's an *excellent* page that will help you decide between Dish and DirecTV (based on programming availability and cost). I downloaded the Excel version and hid rows that I was either not interested in or that were the same for both Dish and DTV on the packages I was considering. This helped me to narrow things down tremendously.

Well I couldn't just hold out on this topic.
I myself own Dish Network and DirecTV and I'll tell you people it's the best way to watch TV, I just love the quility and number of channels! I would never switch back to regular coax cable or even digital cable.
Just some of the features of have DSS (Digital Settalite System:
1. Guide, Any time just click guide and see the quide for next 7 days :)
2. Info, Click info on any channel you are watching and get info, such as actors and what the movie/show is about.
3. Reminders and many more
Trust me this is the best way to watch TV.

Dish Network Cust. Support is TERRIBLE. We got the system last april and were supposed to get a $200 rebate, and we only got it last week. The actual system works fine, no complaints.

check out www.satserv.com
they have a $250 rebate for first time subscribers. That's right, two hundred and fifty f*cking dollars! That plus another $149 rebate when you subscribe to a package. And the service is second to none. My first unit didn't work, so they arranged to have another sent in and the broken one returned - postage paid and all. It wasn't till after I installed the 2nd unit did I notice that the returned receiver wasn't broken - I just messed up on the installation. Even though it wasn't their fault, they covered for my mistakes. The lady who helped was fabulous, she happily spent 30 mins in troubleshooting and explained and re-explained the terms of the rebate before my purchase. I'm in no way connected to this place. It's just that it's so refreshing to have a customer-dedicated company in this age of impersonal automated-reply emails. I feel this is a way of giving back.

I've had Dish Network now for over 5 years and love it. The quality of their customer service has varied from poor to excellent over the years. It simply seems to depend on the person you happen to contact. If I get someone that is a jerk I just call back later. So far I haven't had to call more than twice to get decent support.

I've had the system for quite a while now and it's nice! You get the benefits of an integrated Tivo-like system with the features of digital-cable. Everytime I called customer support I could access them with no wait and they were VERY helpful. It's gooood. :D

Why do all of satserv.com's employees keep plugging the place on this forum? Do they think Anandtechers are too stupid to compare prices?

Same system I got at dbs-sales.com (Dishplayer 7222) is $100 more at satserv! AND, they are pocketing $50 of the $199 Dishnetwork Free Now rebate - they only give you $149! I got the full $199 from dbs-sales.

I just checked out the dishusa.com and their prices look pretty good, too. Sorry satserv employees (drexvil, ganead, etc.) YOUR PRICES SUCK!

LennyZ, you also need a special switch. The normal kits come with SW21 switches that are only good for 1 or 2 receivers. FYI, you pay an extra $4.95/month for each additional receiver.
