First they hosted my search history, then my phone contacts, my music and now my porn? This is too good to be free :colbert:

Google Drive could be available to Internet users as soon as next week, based on details that have leaked today.

Although rumors have been circling for a while, it was widely reported in March that Google would launch its own online storage and collaboration service, dubbed Google Drive, at some point in April.

That appears to be very true now, along with some additional details to sweeten the deal. For example, instead of the earlier expected 1GB of free cloud space, each user apparently will be getting up to 5GB of free space on Google Drive.

That actually makes much more sense overall. Not only does Google undoubtedly have the resources to be able to cover that for its customers, it puts it on par and even ahead of the competition.

Dropbox only offers 2GB of free storage space, while iCloud and Box each offer 5GB of free space. (Box even offers up to 50GB of free cloud space if you managed to qualify for one of their promo deals tied to tablets such as the iPad and HP TouchPad.)

Predictably, Google users will be able to buy more space if 5GB doesn't suffice.

But what's really going to be key for Google Drive is that it will potentially offer users more flexibility and access options than any other cloud provider -- at least on the consumer level. Aside from all of the Gmail and Google Apps integration possibilities, Google is covering all of the bases with support for the G-Drive on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android devices.
An exact launch (or announcement) date hasn't been revealed yet, but expect it to happen by the middle of next week.

I wish Box.net had syncing... I have the 50 gig promo that they talked about in the article, but it's pretty useless when you can't sync

meh; I have 10gigs of free space with drop box.

more flexibility
drop box already does it.

given how Google mines all of the data it has on you and openly shares your searches with the government: I'll stick with drop-box.

Haha, and you think box.net wouldn't or doesn't already?

Box.net doesn't have syncing, which sucks.

Don't put sensitive information on the net and you won't have problems.

It is like everyone complaining about facebook selling their personal info. Well duh, don't give your personal info to facebook to begin with.

All that Google would have on me is my location via IP address and the fact I'm a total nerd :p

I like Dropbox, I'm hoping this will encourage them to give us more free space.

I've been somewhat-patiently waiting for Drive to get released.

Just do it already Google.

I'd have a use - super easy to sync things between Android phone, PC, Nook Color tabletified, and laptop when away from home.
Usually, my syncing habits are deliberate and thus, rarely used, because all the services I've tried are terrible at integration for the way I do things. I can already tell Google Drive will be hands down far better for the way I work.

Skydrive gives you 25GB and has a iOS app and and Android I think. Why can't Google give some storage space like that?

is skydrive free?

Not sure about free.

But Microsoft has supported iOS more than Android, for sure. Android still does not have a SkyDrive app (must use in browser, ugh), and, for syncing purposes, it is still limited to 5gb.

My only interaction with SkyDrive has basically been to sync OneNote between Android and my PC. For that, and OneNote in general, works really well. Editing in the Android app is a little limited and wonky, but keeping both synced is great.

Still debating on it as my long-term synced-notes approach. OneNote on PC is just about my favorite experience for note taking, I can do so much with it. And I refuse to pay subscription services to get similar features in Evernote (but I haven't really played around with it).

That's the thing I hate about ALL of this shit: you can never have the best at everything. There are always trade-offs between one thing or a competitor. Ugh.
Damn you, world!

I'm an absolute android junkie, so I guess that simplicity all coming into one is really getting to me. I'm quite excited.

I still like dropbox for it's desktop use, but now I can see myself using google drive to push content to my phone(Something I don't have a lot of luck with using DB).

I didn't really like it.

Perhaps I won't like Google Drive just as much as I didn't like Dropbox... we'll see.

I am still in the process of determining just what exactly is my best means to attain exactly what I am looking for in terms of data management cross-platform.
