I posted this in the pc gaming section too since this topic covers all platforms and I know some people dont look in both.

okay I just became interested in the series after seeing RE 5 and people mentioning that RE 4 was one of the best games ever. I did some research and it seems the more stuff I look at the more lost I become. there are several different games on different platforms so I dont even know where to start with this series.

I just bought a Wii and picked up RE 4 because it seems that version was better than the pc or ps2. problem is I havent even opened it since I might be returning the Wii because its too damn noisy when reading my Dad Space disc. so should I get a ps2 and get some RE games including RE 4 or should I just get RE 4 for the pc and use an xbox360 controller? from what I understand the pc version of RE 4 came with less content than PS 2 and Wii versions.

I just need some advice on what to do and what platform to do it on.

No cross-posting!

This belongs on this section more than PC gaming.

As I said in the other thread, just stick with the Wii!

well I am returning the Wii. also the thread applies to both console and pc gaming so anandtech should have a general gaming forum if they dont want cross posting. some people never look in both forums and the RE series has titles on all platforms. heck I think I have looked in the console section twice since I have been a member here.

If you get a Wii/Gamecube you can play pretty much the whole series.

Well...

Gamecube had RE1 remake, also you can find RE2 and RE3 but they're just PS1 ports (crappy graphics). RE4 is great on GC or Wii, honestly I like the GC version more. Then pick up RE5 and you're good.

Don't worry about RE0 and all these other spin off games.

You should play all of them starting from the beginning if you want all of the story:

Resident Evil 0 (GameCube)
Resident Evil 1 (PS,GameCube,PC)
Resident Evil 2 (PS, GameCube,PC)
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS,GameCube,PC)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X (DreamCast,PS2,GameCube)
Resident Evil 4 (GameCube,Wii,PS2,PC)
Resident Evil 5 (PS3,XBox360,PC)

If you have a Wii or GameCube you can get everything except RE5 for it.

well the survivor and outbreak series are just on PS2. I may just go buy a PS2 and pick up some of the games. then later I may get a Wii again and pick up some of the games that were remade.

You don't actually have the buy a PS2; the PC emulator is very stable these days and run's off of PS2 discs.

Some people can't take the circa 1996 graphics of the original RE series so remake's (RE0 and RE) on the Cube/Wii are a great way to get into the series.

so I can install something on my pc that will let me play PS2 games? I never really knew what an emulator was so I guess I never thought about. how would the controls for the game even work??

The survival and outbreak games are NOT real RE games. They are "House of the Dead" type spinoffs and not remotely similar to the standard survival horror games. Get a Gamecube and the Resident Evil remake + Resident Evil 4 if you want the true RE experience.

thanks for the info and yeah I was looking through all the reviews for the series and it looks like the Survivor and Outbreak series are not very good. so that means if I stick to the main games that I could just get a Wii. all of the main games have been remade for the Wii and Gamecube so just having a Wii will get the job done. also it seems that the controls are much better on the Wii/Gamecube versions.. the used PS3 is not an option because I dont want to spend that much for a used console with no warranty. I dont really care for blu ray and Uncharted is the only PS3 game that looks okay so its not worth it. so maybe I will give the Wii another chance since to me it looks like the best way to experience all the main RE games.

okay I went to Gamestop and picked up a Gamecube and the whole RE series except for RE Code Veronica X game. 150 bucks with tax for all that stuff was probably only an okay deal but best of all it was local, convenient and painless. now I dont even have to fool with getting a Wii again for a while.

thanks for all the help

Too bad you didn't keep your Wii. You could've played Umbrella Chronicles to get the story.

Cool, now all you need to do is lock yourself away for a week and grind through them :)

if I like the RE games I will get another Wii later and pick up whatever RE games are on it that I need. I may just wait a year or so and see if the Wii HD materializes. on the Wii I would have had to buy a regular controller for at least RE 2 and 3 anyway since they were just gamecube games. it made more sense just to get the gamecube for a few bucks more than controller. they just happened have all the RE gamecube games so that was more reason to go that route.

I really wish 2 and 3 were remakes because its going to seem odd playing 0 and 1 with better graphics first.
