i'm building a comp and all i'm waiting for is the vid card.
should i get the evga 6800 pci-e 256mb for $200 (after rebates) now or wait for prices to fall and get it from a different vendor? i'm trying to spend as close to $200 as i can.

Buy a refurb x800 pro straight from ATI with a 3 year warrenty for $199. That thing smokes a 6800 NU.

Your comp and mobo are so premium. I don't understand why you wouldn't engorge yourself in a relatively top of the line videocard.

plus i want the most i can get for my money because this comp has to last me 3-4 years

IMHO, SLI is not a wise investment for a gamer. A $500 7800GTX is faster than SLI 6800 GT's that set you back roughly $750. Even if you SLI some 6800's a 7800GT will outperform it and both configurations will run you $400.

You have a kickass mainboard and cpu, and you want to choke it with a 6800. IMHO you should go nothing less than a 7800GT if you want to stick with NVIDIA products.

i was thinking of getting a $200 card now and in a year or two, get another one when the price drops to like $100 or maybe even $75.

I know that a 6800 isn't going to be as good as the rest of my system but i don't play games enough to justifiy getting a vid card that's more than $200

First search then check Hot Deals Forums at least twice a day . . . you should find something really nice for under $200 within a few days. ;)

nVidia just dropped the MSRP on the 6800 series . . . give it a few days to affect retail [more]

patience

yea that's why i'm waiting now but the evga's retail now so i'm debating getting that now or waiting for another vendor's price to drop

What exactly do you do on your computer to justify an X2 and SLI mainboard if you aren't a gamer?
