The a70 appears to fit my specs for a DC quite well. 3.2 MP, mostly point and click, but some custom modes available too. The problem is its size. Its seems to hefty to me. I dont want to plunk down $400 for a an ultra-compact, so what am I to do? Is Canon coming out with something new soon?

Thanks.

I love my canon A70, smaller than the A40. I don't find it too heavy but I guess it depends on what you are using it for too.

Yeah, have you thought about the S230? I've got the S200 and it's very good, though of course as expected from a super compact point and shoot, it doesn't have many custom settings at all.

I'd get the A70 if you're in the market for a camera. I'm still waiting for a deal from somewhere so I can get it for less than $300. Staples is the only "coupon-using" site that carries the A70 and I'm having a problem acquiring them. Dell doesn't carry the A70 anymore.

S230 is more expensive than the A70, its macro is not as good as the A70, it lacks 3x optical zoom, and it does not support add-on lenses/filters. The A70 is pocket size enough for me, but my jeans are loose. :)

I have a Canon S50 5 meg that is just super! Also have a Nikon 995. The Canon is in a different league and is a dream to carry. I got mine for $419 bought a 1 meg Compacflash card and an xtra battery and I can shoot more than I will ever need. Makes wonderful prints with a Canon S950 printer, use Canon Photp Pro paper.
