I'm not addicted, I just have nothing better to do. Classes will be picking up soon but in the mean time...

Been hanging out with friends and all that but I usually recharge while being with myself.
What do you all think?

Why drink though? Rather a weird way to pass the time, Shirley you can come up with something more constructive.

There is nothing wrong with drinking alone... as long as you don't get retarded drunk.
Alcohol relaxes the body and mind. Who doesn't want that every now and then?

I would say that as long as it's not interfering with your responsibilities and social life, and you don't get completely shitfaced when you do it, you're fine.

I read a lot of books. I'm reading right now and talking with a friend on AIM about the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I can stop at 1-2 drinks. Depends on the mood. Sometimes I'm like man I really need some beer so I drink a lot. Other times I just want to sip on an expensive beer for the flavor, like on a saturday morning when I browse the internet and play some video games.

I can never drink tons of beer when I have lots of work to do; I simply just don't feel like it. The work/studying is simply too heavy on my mind. For this reason I'm not too worried that I'm becoming an alcoholic.

I have posted plenty about alcoholism here. There is a very long thread with that title.

There are no set rules for what makes someone an alcoholic. You would be the only one that could honestly say if you were. If you think that it might be a problem, why not put it down for a while and see if your life changes for the better? Or you may find yourself obsessing about it, which would be a great clue that you might have a problem.

Alcohol can be a great thing. It helps you to relax, to celebrate...to enhance a lot of feelings. It's a bad thing when it rules your life. Just be careful. If you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to PM me.

No, I don't think so. I personally just don't drink alone, its where I draw the line. You could always use the classic "If alcohol is getting in the way of family obligations or work then you are drinking too much (such as oversleeping or not being able to take your kids to soccer practice or something)". That's always a good meter I guess. In your case it would be school related. Doesn't sound like you are in any real danger. Enjoy a good beer and relax man.

Not drinking when you're alone seems like good advice. Hopefully you don't get bored too often. Still might be better to find something better to do IMHO.

sometimes it is just nice to sit down and relax with a couple of cold ones. no big deal in my opinion

I haven't had a drink in weeks, but this thread is making me think of my single malt collection. Looks like I am having a nightcap with my Arsenal/Liverpool replay before bed... :-D

I think there's a sigma attached to drinking alone, well at least on this board. If you find your drinking affecting your job, relationships, school, etc then I'd say you're an alcoholic. Drinking some beers by yourself and relaxing? Fuck no.

I drink alone quite often. In fact, one of my guilty pleasures when the wife is out of town is to make myself a nice steak dinner, have a couple of beers and watch the hockey game. And by a couple I mean 2, maybe 3.

Drinking alone isn't bad. Getting drunk alone isn't great. Getting drunk alone repeatedly is a problem.

I drink alone whenever I had a long stressful day, pissed off or celebrating something.

Drink because you're bored? IMO that's bit retarded and how does drinking alone makes it any fun? If any, you have to get DRUNK. By that case, you're an alcoholic.

I drink alooonnnnnne yeahhhhhh with nobody elllse.

Drinking alone or with a partner is the same really. It's still alcohol consumption. If you're activities are incomplete without a drink, you should worry.
