My dad just bought a GeForce2 GTS. He put it in and after the restart after installing the 6.1 drivers, the screen just goes blank at the time when it should be at the desktop. I don't know what kind of motherboard he has, but he is using a PIII 450. He was using an i740-based board. Using the standard VGA drivers, Windows loads fine, but it's after the Nvidia driver installation that it goes to heck. Anyone have any ideas?? I wish I had more info, but unfortunately he lives 500 miles away

It a guess but try going into safe mode & set the refresh rate to 60hz or default & reboot & see if it works then.

Maybe the default refresh rate for the resolution his desktop is set at doesnt agree with his monitor.

My monitor will "blackout" if I set my Geforces refresh rate higher than it can handle at a given resolution.

But like I said, its just a guess.

Unfortunately that didn't work. We downloaded a tool called HZTool to set the refresh rates, we also tried various AGP Aperature sizes in BIOS...none of which worked. I'm beginning to wonder if the card is bad??? But he has no other system to test it out in, and I live too far away.

Any other ideas?
Thank you for your reply, I appreciate the help.

Well, I got the problem solved, so if anyone wants to know, here it is. A fella on the 3dgpu.com forums posted and told me to put tape over the last connection pin on both sides of the card. This sounds weird to me, but it worked! Evidently it's a problem with the Biostar M6TBA (and maybe others, I don't know), that's the same board that he had too. Just thought I'd post my findings in case it could help someone else.
