Get around a proxy?

At my girlfriends house her father has a proxy server set up and it is really annoying when I go over there and try to do anything on her computer! I cant check my Gmail account over there because any HTTPS address goes straight to Page cannot be displayed!
There are several online games and apps I cannot use while over there... I tried to download and play gunbound... Instantly fails to connect.
I tried to SSH into my linux server at home through putty and instantly fails to connect even when I go through and try to set up through the proxy 192.168.X.X port XX

The Browser is set to the proxy address and port and there are a couple of external programs I had gotten to work by setting them up to go out through the proxy but it is really annoying that 90% of the stuff I would like to do I cant. It's not big deal, I can always wait until I get home but I do spend the weekends out at her place a lot. It would especially be nice to be able to log into my MMORPG that I run and am the top administrator on. There is no option to set the game up to play through a proxy but I know I could go in and modify the client side program with a hex ediotr to point to a different address.

I guess that if there a reason for this Proxy (like security consideration); it does not matter to you as long as you can play your Games.

I especially have been in the mood to play gunbound! I had actually talked to her father (he is a huge networking guy) he said that he needs to look at the proxy because he siad there was not reason that HTTPS, FTP and all these otehr programs I'm string to use should be blocked. He hasnt had time to look at it but he also said that he cannot check his email from home because of the same problem so I'm guessing it's not for security reasons, just lack of time to fix the problem.
