A couple months ago my Grandfather developed some type of hip injury and had to use a walker to get around very slowly/painfully. He pretty much had to stay at home in bed all day because it was too painful to go out and move around too much.
After some tests and scans the doc told him he had some type of calcium buildup in his hip that was causing the pain and there was nothing he could do about it. so he prescribed some heavy painkillers. Anyways, the doctor dismissed the notion of any physio therapy or any other alternatives and pretty much told him he'd had to get used to it.
Flash forward to today and he comes over for dinner, able to park his car across the street and walk over without a walker or even a cane. Suprised, I ask him where his cane is and he says he has no pain in his leg whatsoever and has been off pain meds for almost three weeks now.
The answer? Acupuncture! Apparently his sister had done it and got him to try it, and after a little needle work in the leg he was feeling much better! He was so impressed he even went back and got them to work on his back.
Moral of the story: Don't give up, have an open mind, and don't assume your doctor is the be all end all.
I'm actually quite interested in learning more about acupuncture now, anyone have any experiences?
