Get a new job or stick with the old one.

My girlfriend just got a new job offer from the GAP warehouse. She is currently working for a small hotel as the receptionist. She works 32 hours per week at 7.00 dollars per hour, which isn't too great. The GAP is offering 40 hours per week, 9.25/hour(starting with a 50 cent raise after 90 days). Thats a quite a bit more money. Obviously if those were the only conditions it would be a simple decision. Unfortunately its not that easy.

The GAP is currently hiring seasonal employees. Although there is a good chance that you will be hired on full time if you prove yourself as a good worker. So basically she can stick with her secure job which pays little and provides no benefits. Or she can go for the job at the GAP which is a much better deal for her. I also forgot to mention she would be able to work 1st shift at the GAP, whcih is waht she wants, but currently can not get at her job. The only problem being that after a few months she may be laid off, leaving her without a job, which is bad for bill paying. I have heard that more jobs are staring to be created, so it looks like the economy and unemployment may be getting better. But she still doesn't know what to do.

So I ask, what would you do?

Resume won't come into play too much, the jobs she qualifies for usually have no use for a resume. I neglected to mention, she has no college education, only a HS diploma.

Same here...but I still have a resume

Also, we live in Columbus, OH. So we have a decent job market. I think she thinks it owuld be hard to find another job if this one did not pan out for her. But I feel, even with the unemployment where it is that a lot of places still need new employees. I mean it seems like warehouses never have a enough employees. I currently work for UPS, and it seems like we still can't bring in enough new people to fill the positions, even with the economy.

I would go for the new job.. the old one barely pays any better than a fast food worker and she could get a fast food worker job if she had to!

Bingo.

I have the same mentality as you guys. I told her to go for it, but I think her parents are trying to talk her out of it, and I don't know why exactly
