get a firedaemon.exe error and cant connect to the internet....

Firedaemon runs any process as a windows service. It runs in the background and doesn't appear on the task manager process list. There _might_ be a legit reason for having this on your machine, but firedaemon is frequently used by 'hackers' to hide processes running on a target. Kind of a crude method considering the other options, but I'd probably be worried if I were you.

HijackThis might give you some insight.

Download it, set it up in its own folder, and then run the scan with the option "save to log file" checked.

The easy way ...

Copy to clipboard the entire contents of the log file. Then go to www.hijackthis.de and paste the contents of your log file in the box and then proceed with your online analysis. See what they have to say about firedaemon and the rest of your running processes. If its confirmed as dangerous, use HijackThis to "fix it."

ok, installed some registry cleaners and the like, but now I can play online games, use AIM but no internet surfing unless i am using the Admin account on safe mode.

Atheus is right. It is a legit file but can be a backdoor trojan. Your not being able to connect to the net is not a usual symptom but, then again, you may have other malware on your system.

You should do a HijackThis log, but I wouldn't rely on www.hijackthis.de - it's not always accurate and doesn't tell you how to get rid of stuff.

By the way, when the file is being used as malware, it's usually seen as one of the O23 entries.

I sent him there for insight, which isn't a bad idea. Would I rely on the site as a fix all for all problems? Certainly not! The OP does not appear that niave. I stand by what I said ... its good for gaining insight, but only zap the ones that are known to be nasty. If there's any questions at all, seek help before proceeding.

Also, if you have any 010 entries, seek help before proceeding. You'll kill your internet connection if you just start zapping.

This certainly sounds like malware.

Just a quick FYI, you can't fix O10 entries in the newest version of HJT (for obvious reasons..)
