german speaking people...

ok... surprisingly I've never learned formal stuff like that in class. most of the letters i have read starts with "liebe Hans" or something.

it's an email for a coordinator of the international student exchange program. should I go formal and start with "Sehr geehrte Herr _____" since i know his name?

any help is appreciated....

I've taken 4 years of german.. and I don't know. I always write Liebe for letters (only written to family before though)
