This Brian Kampf character sure is one upstanding nice dude kind of guy. We have all heard this over a period of time but is nice to get a summed up rundown of this PRIME example of a proud Comrade, Trump fluffer and true genuine soul friend of Kanye West.
What a guy. Can we get an applause?
*clap*

If its a dead race right now you know in reality Stacy is up 10+ points at least.
Democracy my ass.

I think the Maddow piece needs its own thread. I am sure the regular resident Trump supporters will claim fake news, but it is really interesting. Of course they won't make it past the 3 minute mark of a 21 minute video.

One of the best things this country could get is a voting rights amendment that established universal suffrage for any citizen over 18. Because the right to vote isn’t guaranteed in the Constitution conservatives have been able to pass all sorts of laws to ‘protect the vote’ which are actually intended to prevent Democrats from voting. If these laws had to face strict scrutiny nearly all of them would go down in flames.

Obviously that's something they would never agree to do, since they would have to shift left to maintain similar competitiveness. Besides, we already have 1st (voting is speech -- at least makes a helluva lot more sense than a couple of billionaires buying off all the pols...), 5th (specifically substantive due process), and 14th Amendment (equal protection).

that and make election day a national holiday. for a country that prides itself on the right to vote, why aren't we making it as easy as possible for everyone to vote?

Because it is in the very strong interest of the ruling party that as few people vote as possible.

They have rigged the system on purpose because they know they can’t win otherwise. If they have to choose between democracy and conservatism the choice is easy - conservatism.

That, or make it not just a day, or at least a weekend day. No reason it needs to be such a pain in the ass.

We need an amendment to fix a number of issues.

Beat the drum like the Bushies did in 2004-06 with anti-gay marriage amend (but not for evil.)

Points:
1. Automatic registration for all those with a SSN
2. Outlaw Gerrymandering
3. Voter ID compromises
4. Guarantee access to polling places/ expand voting methods and timeframes

Make our system actually democratic

If the Democrats somehow regain power of the Presidency and both sides of Congress, and then do that... oh, can you imagine the wailing from Republicans who'd realize that their dream of eternal one-party rule was being shut down? They'd try to fight it on a state-by-state level, I'm sure, but they'd be in a panic. They might have to, y'know, appeal to the real will of the people instead of rigging elections.

They made that choice some while back. They're more than conservative, anyway. Reactionary right is closer to the truth.

I think that's why it could be a winning strategy.

It's one thing to just complain about the devious tactics Republicans employ to win elections. It's another to actually have a strategy to counteract it.
Ideally it's a strategy that broadly appeals to shared values, like the idea of representation, and the importance of democracy and voting.

Hard to argue against that. Leave the Rs to debating for less democracy.

Leave the nuts and bolts of the proposals out of the broad debate ( eg judicial panels vs bipartisan commissions vs algorithms to fix gerrymandering) until there is enough power and support to put things in place.
