One interesting part of the article is where they describe how some bodies (that has been buried for up to 10 years) were apparently dug up and moved to this place.. No known explanation there..

I wonder what the guy's reasoning is. The incinerator could not have been broken for the 3 year period. The guy probably did it to pocket more money.

Revolting.

That is messed up, but why would the Governor declare a state of emergency?

It says in the article -- to give the locals access to state funding and support, presumably because the search and identification will be costly.

maybe it's just me, but aside from general disgust, i get the feeling there is some outrage over this... just interesting to see cultural traditions in action.

The local news is having The Biggest Field Day Ever(tm) with this one. The latest is that they have RE-arrested the tool responsible for all this on additional charges of "theft by deception" (ie- taking money but not ever disposing of the bodies as promised). They apparently opened another four vaults today with bodies stacked like cordwood inside. The worst thing are the poor family members that are having to identify long-dead bodies.....they are apparently going to use DNA analysis to ID some of the older bodies. The state legislature is also in the process of some hasty law-making to hopefully prevent this kind of stuff in the future.

I'm sure this will do marvelous things to dispel the notion that people from GA are freaky backwoods wackos.

You mean it wasn't already illegal to dump dead bodies everywhere and charge people for cremation?
