They just reported on Foxnews that Georgia has passed resolution to change the flag once again to not include the old flag in it at ALL. Of course the flag of now...yesterday, included very small inclusions of previous GA flags at the bottom of it. The new flag looks ghey BTW... . I liked the one that included all previous flags at the bottom better.

Edit: link to Atlanta article. http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/politics/0403/26legflag.html

They spend their time nitpicking about historical images of slavery yet seek to enslave all with their bassackwards Laws.

Great place...that Georgia

No offense to those who live in Georgia but you guys had/have some real winners in your state gov't;)

Not a done deal yet as the governor still has to sign off on it. I don't know if he will or not since the civil war heritage preservationist goons who helped elect him will have a sh*tfit that the confederate battle flag isn't somehow incorporated into the new one.

CAD: you're half right. The current legislature has wasted a tremendous amount of time on stupid stuff while ignoring the relevant issues, but this isn't necessarily indicative of GA as a whole. We're actually one of the more progressive southern states in many ways, believe it or not.

I will not be mocked by a freaking Texan, dammit. We're still waiting for you people to admit that the secession thing is over and you're a state again. ;)

Then there's Iowa. There's a state that's done...nothing. Are there even any pro sports teams in Iowa? (Hey, you started it!)

Does anyone actually think that any state government is worth a damn? They are all corrupt and rarely do anything well. While I am an advocate of a smaller federal government, it gives me pause to realize that such a move increases the power of state governments, which scares me.

I was raised in California and always thought the flag was repersentative of states rights which is sorley lacking nowerdays. Anyway it seems to be a good thing if it is causing so much discord. Just give them a solid grey flag... Wait that won't work Confederates wore grey uniforms. Ok just give them a Half white and half black flag...Wait the poplulation distribution is...

Blah they don't deserve a flag.

It will not be changed because it was passed and the governor signs it.
All that does is put it on the ballot because it is a ammendment to the state constirution which requires a vote of the people.

I think my home state of New Hampshire isn't too bad. We have no sales or income tax, and we don't run huge debts like nearby taxachussets...

Iowa's big problem is being represented by US Senator Chuck Grassley. What a disgusting human being.

HeHeHe - So Bleep has a problem with Chuck huh? What's your beef? That he's going against Bush's wishes and compromised on a 350Billion tax cut instead of Bush's 550+billion tax cut? If you had watched FoxNews Sunday with Tony Snow you'd know this;)

Living in the Atlanta area, I get a kick out of the whole flag debacle. Yes hate groups have used the Confederate BATTLE flag (flown during combat no less) to signify their hate. Well now a close copy of the Stars and Bars (the flag of the CSA) is now gonna fly over Georgia. I find it totally ironic that this will happen. Somethings are better off left alone.

Well, Barnes tried to address the issue with the previous (and ugly) flag that gave a small nod to all the previous flags. Purdue, idiot that he is, decided to stake part of his campaign on this by appealing to the preservationist/heritage groups who then helped to elect him. Now everybody's pissed off, virtually nothing got done in the just-ended legislative session thanks to all the sound and fury revolving around the flag and Purdue may have just killed his reelection chances.....not that I'm too upset about that. ;)

Shouldn't we ban white sales then?

After all, why not call them linen sales?

This offends me and thus should be changed. I should thus be compensated 40 floppies and a laptop for all my mental pain and anguish.

That's not exactly the same thing. Not to get into the "why was the civil war fought" debate, but you can certainly see why the confederate flag (the side that fought for slavery in some people's opinion) would be offensive. Doubly so when you look at the timing of the incorporation of the battle emblem into the Georgia flag that was essentially a big "f*ck you" to the civil rights movement.

As was the incorporation of God into the Pledge of Allegiance a big F you to all non-Christians. I imagine the KKK was pretty irked when you incorporated the Negro league in with the Professional baseball league as well.

Bottom line is you can't please 100 percent of the people 100 percent of the time. I still like the South Carolina flag that Chris Rock pushed for on his show. it was the Dixie flag, but the stars have been replaced with the faces of the stars on the WB. I'm sorry if you think the Dixie flag is an affront to you, but tough sh!t. I'm part American Indian and you don't hear me b!tching about the Atlanta Braves or the Washington Redskins now do you? Bet next they want to replace the mascots at Miss State and UNLV.

Yeah since when was lynching good for Christians? Like everybody else Christians died when strung up by the neck.
