Let's hear the name calling. George Will hates America. He's a socialist, leftist, commie, anti-american, Palin-frightened, kenyan-loving, elitest, ....... I'm out of breath.

George Will who has been one of the saner sounding members of the right is saying out loud what many in the forum have been saying for years and have been castigated for it.

So the same demands of moderate Muslims the right make, look in the mirror.

Is this a William F. Buckley moment when the likes of the family council and the rest of the haters were pushed out of the mainstream party?

I may disagree with a lot of what he says but this is spot on.

Republicans can't reject the crazies- they created 'em, nurtured 'em, made 'em their base, depend heavily on their votes. They'd have to disown the radical reactionary richies in their financial base, as well, and that won't happen.

Will's right, of course, he's just 30 years too late. He's already in the belly of the beast.

It's scary that he still lists Haley Barbour as one of the plausible R presidential candidates.

Edit: Actually, he lists him as a plausible president. Scarier.

It's kind of funny how William F. Buckley grew up and rejected large parts of the Conservative platform right before he died, everything from the war on drugs, to the iraq war... and i think he even wrote a piece against the rapacious greed of the capital class. If he wasn't the founder of the National Review, he would've been kicked out a long time ago.

So I guess that's the excuse nobody in the GOP will disavow the crazies or at least the crazy notions. John Boehner's excuse "I don't tell people what to think" In case you didn't notice 80% of his time is spent telling people what to think.

Until the GOP stop giving aid and comfort to the racist/birther fringe that big tent the GOP eagery craves will continue to shrink.

Obama seems to have no trouble killing brown people. I guess its only racist when Republicans do it. That shrinking GOP party sure seemed to kick the ass of the 'growing?' Democrat party this last election.

The only thing brown is the stain on this reply from where you pulled it.

Who said anything about killing anyone? Try sticking to the point for once in your flaming life.

Can't... won't... refuses to do so. He'd have to look at himself to follow the thread, and God only knows where that might lead...

As for Republican choices for Prez in 2012, they have hucksters & loons, and they'll need a loon to bring out their base in full force... How about the Sarah! or Michelle Bachmann or Rick Santorum instead of Huckabee? Maybe they could catapult Rand Paul to the top...

Eh... I've heard the same thing said about Palin. "It's only the left-wing that cares about her." The left wing didn't give Palin and Huckabee spots or contributing roles on their favorite "news" networks.

But anyway, who ARE the right-wingers pushing as a GOP nominee? I haven't figured that out yet.

Insane greed, ignorance, and hate are what built this country!

Everyone know that and everyone sane and insane alike knows there's no stopping or slowing down this train until it jumps the tracks. Why Joseph McCarthy is a personal hero of mine and George Will must simply be getting confused in his old age. Either that or some damn fool psychiatrist proscribed him antipsychotics!

That's the biggest threat to the American way of life, socialized medicine prescribing antipsychotic drugs.

Mitch Daniels will run if the party doesnt implode in on itself..

The problem is he may not get the nomination if it goes crazy negative early on. He may survive but the wounds would kill any candidate in the general..

They have already broken Ronnie Rayguns golden rule...Dont say anything bad about another republican..

GOP can't loose birthers, that's probably 1/2 of its base. Even if they are a little strange, it's still a ton of votes. I doubt most politicians will care if the constituents are rational or not, play into their emotional needs, gain their votes.

If one day GOP base no longer interested in birther issues, politicians like Huckabee would never play into this birther angle. I've seen him on TV, he's very smart, I'd say quite a bit good at sensing people's needs, even many Dem applaud him. He most definitely doesn't believe this birther business, too smart for that, but he's just wheeling in those birthers into his camp by giving them everything they like to hear.

I think in politics it's not about been truthful, if you can't get the votes, all that truth is useless to you.

George Will was a big Obama supporter in fall 2008. He pretty much trashed McCain with the same snarky and peevish disdain he lets lose on Schmuckaby . While I don't doubt Obama and other agent provocateurs could be milking the birth issue ( McCain citizenship was investigated by Senate) Will can't be calling people out on their conservatism because he sold his out in 08. I'm sure he is aware of his failure on this issue. Will can be smart but I never trust guys in bow ties and who carry on about baseball. Reeks of weenie.

McCain was faced with these exact same issues though. So it's not like Will is simply finding a different subject to be against. Who can forget McCain trying to explain to his crowd that Obama wasn't some kind of secret Muslim/Commie/Terrorist?

Those events probably sunk McCain as much as Palin did.

http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2011/02/romney-and-birthers.html

This poll indicates that 51% of GOP likely voters in next year's primaries are birthers. The article is dated Feb 15 2011 and was conducted by the Public Policy Polling.

I think Mr Huckabee knows who his audience is and is talking directly to them.

Just goes to show, if you can't fight a guy with facts, just make up lies that feeds the need to demonize the opposition.

It just amazes me though, how desperate the right is, that they have to resort to these kinds of dishonest propagandizing, and just as amazing how their base actually believe all of this obviously phony shtick.

It could get interesting if the GOP pushes out George Will and similar conservatives.

BTW, what is it with blaming "liberals, leftist, progressives, etc for Ms Palin, Mr Huckabee, Birthers, and anyone else who is embrassing?

The economy sunk Mr McCain. Mr McCain had pretty much caught up with Mr Obama after the 2008 GOP convention.

Desperation and belief are for chumps.

This is classic hate mongering in the tradition of Adolf Hitler and the KKK complete with willful denial and ignorance. The point is to create a cult of hatred where everyone's self-esteem begins to revolve around their shared hatred. Once you've achieved that you could tell them Obama's a hermaphrodite and they'd agree. Not because they're desperate or really believe it, but because they want any excuse to express their hatred. If it was good enough Hitler, its good enough for the republican party! Joseph McCarthy did it, and the time is ripe for another leader to step forward and take us into the new century. This time we just need someone with a few more brains.

A whole thread totally wasted over what an idiot, in George Will said.

Sorta the Emperor wears no clothes build up, layer by layer, to absurd heigts.
