Why does the nice guy always finish last??? Instead of going after a nice, young gentleman like Andy Pettite, George Steinbrenner wants the bad boy. Georgie doesn't give Andy the time of day, but is busy carousing with Gary Sheffield and chasing after Kevin Brown? Andy was quiet, calm, didn't hurt nobody, and is an upstanding citizen. Instead, George digs the a$$hole and is more concerned with signing guys like David Wells. Poor Average Andy. He didn't stand a chance.

i'll say it in probably every andy pettitte thread, but he is the most underrated pitcher in baseball.

he won THREE game 2's for them last off season AFTER LOSING all three game one's. how HUGE is that?

Um, Pettite left 7.5 MILLION DOLLARS on the table to leave NY. He is originally from the Houston area and he wanted to go there.

if George had wined him and dined him from Day 1, pettitte would still be a yankee. NY was his FIRST CHOICE all along. he just got tired of all the BS and lack of respect he was being shown.

having said that, the allure to go home WAS a factor, but i think it was more than georgie porgie dissed him.
