Flipping burgers is good for you!

This isn't about protectionism

This isn't about the global economy

This is about one of the stupidest things to come out of the White House lately (that's saying something)

Snippet-
"The movement of American factory jobs and white-collar work to other countries is part of a positive transformation that will enrich the U.S. economy over time, even if it causes short-term pain and dislocation, the Bush administration said yesterday.

The embrace of foreign "outsourcing," an accelerating trend that has contributed to U.S. job losses in recent years and has become an issue in the 2004 elections, is contained in the president's annual report to Congress on the U.S. economy.

"Outsourcing is just a new way of doing international trade," said N. Gregory Mankiw, chairman of Bush's Council of Economic Advisors, which prepared the report. "More things are tradable than were tradable in the past. And that's a good thing."

So your job is gone, and that is a good thing. Orwellian indeed. Good for India perhaps, but not for decent paying jobs here.

Job loss may be inevitable, but having them go is not a good thing for American workers. Cancer is good too. It reduces the population, and the demand for natural resources. So if you get it, let supporters of this kind of thinking know. They will congratulate you on your good fortune.

I wonder how happy they would be if they got it themselves?

How is all this Orwellian? How do you think the US got to be so rich anyway? It comes around, you know - you've to to take the rough with the smooth.

If you think that this is so bad, then do something about it. Use your purchasing power as a political point. Be principled about the companies you buy from, and their purchasing habits. Otherwise quit whinging.

Senator Kerry apparently has a sense of humor:

"I've got a feeling this report was prepared by the same people who brought us the intelligence on Iraq," he said.

Heh, classic. Nice report, Winston.

It's funny how jobs have been going overseas for years, but people are only crying now.

Maybe you should blame Gore; he invented offshoring.

honestly who cares, while I don't agree with offshoring I realize that companies have it decided that this is the path they wish to take, anything we do now in inhibiting this will only hurt more as our products will be priced out of the market...it is a global econ and we have to do whatever it takes to compete, if companies feel this is their only shot then let them take it...like others have said, fight with your money and buy from companies that don't offshore.

..and the Internet! Without the Internet, there wouldn't be a *bazillion* IT people whining about their over-saturated career field. <whine> but, but, but, I got an undergraduate IT degree, I have a 'right' to a job</whine>

The question that I have is where does the Bush Administration (or anybody else) think these 2.6 million jobs will be created? Manufactuing? Services? IT?

I agree with Edwards. W's administration runs the same risks as Pappy Bush's: Being viewed as out of touch. After a report like this, I think they are going to have to focus and get specific on how they plan to achieve this job growth (besides appointing a special manufacturing liason or tax cuts.) Otherwise, rubbing salt in the wound of the unemployed by telling them it's good for the economy that their job was outsourced will not convince them to pull the lever for you again in November.

Shortsighted thinking leads to shortsighted results. Everyone looks at the here and now and gets confused. Do you honestly think this is the first time we, as a nation, have lost jobs? No. Look back in history and you'll see plenty of times where millions of jobs were lost and you probably won't read any articles of where milllions of jobs were created. The point is, those people found work and so will these.

If you're going to tell me that 2.6 million jobs never can be created and that were at a lost, I'd say you've been shopping at DaveMart way too long.

so the answer is...what? the usual democrat method of taxing businesses more, making it more expensive for them to operate coupled with taxing the consumer more, giving him less money to buy more expensive products with less salary and benefits packages because the bottom line has increased?
