Notice, this calculator only goes up to $100K per individual or 100K +50% contribution from spouse for married couples.

I guess anything over those limits is on a need to know basis and the Bush team doesn't think the general public needs to know.

Looks good to me. No taxes on the first 30K earned. Who says this dosen't help low income. I mean no taxes for the poor, how much better can it get?

zonkers: No kidding. I love how the liberals now are saying that Bush needs to cut the payroll taxes to help the poor, not just tax rate cuts (since those save the wealthy more -- well, no sh|t Sherlock -- they pay more). So, if Bush were to cut payroll taxes, yet more liberals would complain that he's endangering government assistance programs!

This should be an interesting fight in Congress.

I don't think Bush should cut the payroll taxes. In fact, I would like to see a graduated increase in the payroll tax according to income scale, an elimination of the $60K cutoff line, and elimination of various loopholes businesses use to get out of paying some of their FICA taxes. Then if the rich get back more than they paid due to capital gains tax cuts (which are supposed to be coming up next year) and estate tax repeals, it'll be an even tradeoff. The payroll taxes benefit the greater part of society anyway and 3/4 of America's workers now pay more in payroll taxes than they do income taxes. This extra money would allow more money for programs to help the poor (whose numbers have remained constant at 13% since 1989) expanded coverage of Medicare and Medicaid to pay for prescription drugs and other treatments so healthcare doesn't have to be rationed for senior citizens, maybe even a national healthcare insurance program for the 50 million people in the US who don't have health insurance, shore up the programs so people don't have to worry about the pyramid scheme going broke, and would be a fairer redistribution of the wealth and better for society than an income tax reduction.

Screw more redistribution of "wealth". When taking into account federal, state, excise, sales, fuel, and other taxes, I pay over 50% of my income in taxes.

The percentage amount of taxes that you pay as a single person under Bush's plan continues to go up as you go all the way up to 100,000. At 36,000 you would save 8.3% in taxes, at 100,000 you save 13.7%, quite a nice increase.

I don't think the calculator only going up to 100,000 means those are the only people who get tax breaks, but I imagine after that it starts to trickle off a bit. Besides, anyone making over $100k is among the wealthiest in America believe it or not. The average salary per household in america is somewhere around $55-60k for middle aged people.

10,000: 33.4% cut
16,000: 22.4% cut
20,000: 15.5% cut
26,000: 10.6% cut
30,000: 8.7% cut
36,000: 8.3% cut
40,000: 8.8% cut
46,000: 9.2% cut
50,000: 9.4% cut

Gee divinemartyr, for some reason you forgot to point out that as you go down in income from 36,000 or so, your percent decrease actually gets larger also.

"I think its good to borrow idea's from other government types." What's the difference between a Democrat and a Socialist? I don't know either, so why don't they just campaign under the Socialist banner? :|

Why don't we just cut unconstitutional government programs and stop paying taxes alltogether? That seems more logical to me...

Just to toss a few facts in about the evil rich.

making $100k/year puts you in the top 5% of income earners.
Making $260K/year puts you in the top 1% of income earners.

The evil top 1% aint that loaded....

You're right Napalm, there was a reason, earlier in the thread before my post, ~zonker~ already said something similar attesting to that fact, check it out:

<< Looks good to me. No taxes on the first 30K earned. Who says this dosen't help low income. I mean no taxes for the poor, how much better can it get? >>

While it is not true that there are no taxes for people who make under 30k, he did say it helps the poorer even more before my addition. So yeah, there was a reason.
