LOL! Just looked at the 'server' and realized that the cpu hs/fan that's in there is missing a fin on the fan! So *THAT'S* what all the noise was!
Replaced the hs/fan with one that I had kicking around here (7500rpm and not as noisy as the damaged AMD retail fan!) and reapplied some AS5 on the CPU and temps are running ~47C at idle... case temp is listed at 20C with the side open and a 120MM fan blowing air into the case. Added another 128Mb ram to the 512 that was in there (all that I had kicking around!). Hopefully this will make a difference.
Okay... here's what I'm looking for...
- 1 rock solid Athlon XP motherboard... I'm thinking the all-in-ones that I used for DC crunchers are not ideal as server mobos.
- 1 or 2 ~20g 7200rpm ATA100 hard drives. I'm thinking 2 so that one can be the backup drive GOT ONE.. A 40G! THANKS VERY MUCH GARRY (CONFUSED)!!!
I've got plenty of DDR and SDRAM, old PCI vidcards and nics kicking around, and I've got a case and several PSUs, so I think I'm all set for these parts.
If you've got some of these kicking around and want to sell them, LMK!
