Geoff's Stats - SCSI RAID Controller advice

How does THIS one look to you guys? Offers RAID 5 and hot-swap... wide ultra2 SCSI LVD... it's older in that it's not 64-bit, but it's dirt-cheap with all the manuals and software and runs under any NT kernel... important since the server will be running under Win2K Pro! 🙂

The motherboard I'm sending you has 2 64-bit PCI slots incase you decide you would like a 64-bit SCSI card or gigabit ethernet card.

I'm not sure about that card since I have limited experience with SCSI but I hear Adaptec makes excellent cards and Tekram cards always worked well for me.

My experiance with Adaptec adaptors has also been excellent! I noticed the mobo could handle a pair of 64-bit cards, but those are a little more expensive! 🙂

I have always been a huge fan of the MEGAraid cards formerly from AMI but now from LSI Logic. Adaptec has always made nice SCSI controllers, but their raid cards in my experience haven't been quite as nice.

Geoff, that is a great card. We have the same model at work in an app server (Win2K, MS Office, Citrix) and it works great. No problems with it at all. Nice find. Though the $15.00 shipping plus $5.00 for insurance seems rather high.

I've been using an Adaptec 131U2 with 64 megs cache for a few years - no problems & it sends me email whenever there is a problem. It handles problems itself, uses hot spares and all the good stuff these things are supposed to do. There are some on Ebay right now for about 10% of what I paid for mine.
I'm sure the Compaq one is great too, but I just thought I'd throw in my $0.02 😉

Oh yeah, this has been doing hundreds of thousands of hits a day for several years serving everything from email to websites to Real Au / Vid, Winmedia, SQL server, etc...
