Sounds like fun.

Not that I have time for it, but it still sounds like fun.

Actually, reading more, that sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. GPS is cheap, & it would keep me from getting my ass lost (which I can do quite easily).

Might be worth a shot...

I see the potential for some serious $hit. Imagine some insane man placing 'cache' bombs around the world that when you open them they explode. I don't think this idea is going to work well..

Do a search for your zip code. I did a search for mine, & came up with 72 results here in northwestern Oregon.

It seems pretty popular already.

<< What shouldn't be in a cache?

Use your common sense in most cases. Explosives, ammo, drugs, and alcohol shouldn't be placed in a cache. Respect the local laws. All ages of people hide and seek caches, so use some thought before placing an item into a cache.

Food items are always a bad idea. Animals have better noses than humans, and in some cases caches have been chewed through and destroyed because of food items in a cache.

ah cool, a cache in prospect park. I just walked by there today, wish I'd known....

heck, for most of these a gps isn't even necesary, just some mapping skills and online longitude/latitude utilities.

GPS isnt as useful by itself. ya gonna need some mad skills with maps and compasses first. earlier this year i went on a 30 mile hike with a GPS. helped me not get lost about 5 times or so.

the best is GPS with conjunction with laptop on the road...or PDA on foot. I have yet found good palm software that can do contour lines or city streets.

GPS with cheap palm pilot in a water proof hardshell would be the bomb on a hike. having batteries run out would not be the bomb.
