My Windows XP Pro original CD version 2002 got damaged. I just made a new build and now stuck without a working CD. mine fails to read random files during installation. Tried it on 3 different optical drives and pretty confident the problem is with the CD. I was dumb and didn't make a backup of it.

Spoke to Microsoft customer service and sent them a scanned copy of the CD and product key as they asked. I couldn't get them the proof of purchase which got misplaced in several moves since 2002. Microsoft keeps repeating their 90-day replacement policy on retail purchases and dilly dallying my issue.

Although I can use linux, I prefer having a Windows system on dual boot. any suggestions to help my problem.

Thanks

before you give up on your CD try runing memtest on your new build, bad memoary will give those errors.

OR try your cd on a different system.

+1, especially if your new RAM is fancy stuff spec'ed for higher-than-normal voltages. If it's made for higher voltage, make sure you've manually set the voltage in the BIOS.
