Genuine Advantage

Has MS made genuine advantage mandatory recently? I can no longer disable the add-on in internet explorer. BTW I'am the administrator of said machine.

So why not just validate? You do have a legal copy right?

Judging by his replies, no. 😛 There is a workaround but I am not going to post it.

And why should you? It's not like software pirates don't have access to Google

The fact of the matter is that most people suck @ searching.

Sad thing is I have a legal copy of XP for just about every computer I have had, and I choose not to use them because of one bad experience with product activation(yes I did call, and did get the Inspiron 8100 reactivated + Office XP reactivated), o and dell doesnt provide you with real CDs, only a partition with the bloatware that you want rid of for all new systems.
You do not need any .dll replacement file, nor bypass script. You also can leave autoupdates running as far as I know as well.
If you want, find the downloads on downloads.microsoft.com, and search for the file names on google, there should be a mirror. Most updates do not require Genuine Advantage anyways, its really just anything they consider to be a new feature. Believe me WM10 is very easy to obtain, and I also have a legal machine or two to do it if I want directly from their site. Finally if you do use mozilla go to http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/

Do not expect microsoft to support your actions or make it easier to pirate, that is just stupid. You must keep up with updates on your own since you are not using their product how they intended.

BTW it is funny how the windows auto updater still trys to install TAPI, MSIE, Outlook Express, and other software updates even after you have stripped them out of the OS. Nlite is a great product and another reason I do not use Microsoft's legal methods.

what does nlite have to do with legaly using windows according you the EULA? Nlite doesn't break the eula.

Ever try to use a non-existant Dell OEM CD? 🙂

BTW you cant remove Internet Explorer Core without removing support for OTBE aka product activation and intial logon.

I tried WindizUpdate. It gave me some updates that Microsoft Update did not. Is WindizUpdate just that much better at detecting problems or does it just have more updates available.

So does MS update have any advantage over Windiz or is Windiz just better in every way.

I was thinking the same thing.
Of course, if he has an OS from 3rd parties in the first place... then hey, caution was thrown to the wind a loooooong time ago 😉

he'll pay up one day 😀 When he gets a job he'll want to reward himself with a legit copy 😉 I know guys older than me by five or six years with jobs that pirated windows among other stuff like crazy that now plop the hundreds of dollars on the legit stuff
Besides, its more advantagous for Microsoft to have people use a pirated copy than to migrate to something else like OSX or Linux
