Genuine Advantage crap

How many times does MS ask you to install this thing.

I get one like every other week.
What a pain in the ass

This is on a dell.

Anyway to keep this crap from asking me over and over again asking me to install it over and over.

If it's the same KB number, in windows update you can check a box which says "don't show this again", and it won't download or ask you to install.

Are you logging into windows update via IE, or looking at them via the download tool. You can only do this by going to the windows update website itself.

Here is a crack:
Im not sure if im allowed to post the link, check your PM box

Im not sure if it works; but good luck 😉 !

It seems to have worked for most of the people that commented

it's a pain in the ass having that yellow shield on the bottom asking you to update.

yes it's legit

winxp home on my dell 😛

When WGA first came out, I unselected it and also said not to show this again. It hasn't popped up since. I did get the regular updates this last round too, and WGA didn't show up again.

I'll probably have to put it on when I want to download something from MS, but there's nothing I need to download other than security fixes, so I say screw WGA. Don't care about IE7, Defender, DX10 is Vista only...

Anyways, I was talking with someone yesterday who had an update that just would not go away for some reason. Computer is set to auto-update each night. But every day there's that dang yellow shield with the balloon message saying updates are ready to install. There were two there, one was maybe virtual machine something, and the other was the malicious software removal tool. For whatever reason they either will not install, or not remember that they were installed.

I'm fully legit. All GA'd and all updates installed. From time to time, I'm getting the yellow shield with a "Downloading Updates" when hovering over it. It eventually disappears and there are no updates.

I've gone to the update site afterwards and there is nothing available as I expected.

I'm wondering if the shield is appearing when it's actually checking for updates.

This is new behavior I have not seen until recently. No bother really.
