Gentoo ricing guide 170%

Too funny.

I think finally a lot of the n00b gentoo users are starting to realize they were just ricing their systems out. There aren't any "post your extreme CFLAGS" threads in the forums there anymore, and this is just making fun of them. My favourite CFLAGS include:

-mrice
-omg-optimized

😀

ln -sf /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask /etc/portage/package.unmask

This guarantees that you'll get all the top sekrit super fast experimental ebuilds!
My cpu is overclocked as far as it will go; I needed to install liquid nitrogen cooling to get it to even boot up!
As I mentioned earlier, you won't want the developers (or probably even other ricers) to see something like this. I've kept a few of the REALLY good flags secret for myself, because you've gotta learn some stuff on your own!

LOL, good stuff. 😀

Personally, I went from Gentoo to Smoothwall for my firewall / network services box, because Gentoo was just too much hassle, and being in college, I don't have time to deal with it right now. It's a great distribution, but certainly not for everyone.

I"m a gentoo ricer. I got uber flags like this

CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe"

I never really cared about optimized flags. I just like the control and ease of the package managment gentoo gives you. But it is always good to see more people understanding that all those optimsations do nothing and are likley to cause bugs.
