Gentoo for OS X!

I'm not a big fan of OSX, but I realy hope apple shows a little support for this. What do you guys think?

I have been running gentoo on a few of my x86 computers for a while now, it works great, after it is setup it is very easy to admin, hopefully it will be as easy on osx.

well, it's interesting, even if most OS X users will have no idea what to with it. I'd use it, if I had a Apple... Oh well hopefully I'll get my hands on a power book in the near future

pkgsrc currently has support for the following platforms:

* NetBSD (of course!)
* Darwin (MacOS X)
* FreeBSD
* IRIX
* Linux
* OpenBSD
* Solaris

Last I checked, pkgsrc had over 3500 packages, but I'm pretty sure the number is alot more now (I just don't remember the exact number).

Ok, so we have pkgsrc, open packages, fink (apt by another name), and now gentoo/portage/whatever the freaking packaging system is actually called... Choices are good I guess.

I see openpkg and gentoo being redundant with pkgsrc, but fink is definitely a bit different, since it grabs binary packages most of the time (pkgsrc is basically like ports).

Having run Gentoo on a couple of my x86 boxes, this gets me a little excited. Although I want to keep OS X on my iBook, this gives me a chance to grab the latest OS X-compatible packages.

Although I'll look into pkgsrc as it seems to provide the same functionality.. now.

Choices are good, but if I ever shelled out the cash for a macintosh then I would definitely keep the OS that came with it.
