Don't forget about Humpty-Dumpty .... wear your FULL-FACE helmet every single time you get on the bike to do more then roll it into the garage.

I went down in the rain at about 20 mph and the back of my head hit the asphalt so hard I would have been a vegetable if not for my helmet.

Instead my biggest concern was the bent foot-peg and busted signal-lamp. (also had to replace the helmet)

EDIT: Also one of my daughters friends dad's was killed "just taking a ride around the block" right in his neighborhood when he slid on sand and hit his head on a curb at less then 10 MPH!

Helmet would have been hot and uncomfortable though!

I have no helmet. :(

Wholly fuk, I didn't realize it, but its supposed to be raining later today/tonight. FUK. How much harder is it to drive a motorcycle in the rain? I am starting to have a bad feeling about this...

Don't take that ride then. ALL kidding aside. :(

Go pick up an inexpensive DOT-certified helmet TODAY... they're not nearly as protective as a really good one BUT they'll still save your life! (it doesn't take much of a "tap" on the noggin to change your life FOREVER)

Wholly fuk, I didn't realize it, but its supposed to be raining later today/tonight.

Then TRIPLE what I said above..... plan your first ride for another day, the road will still be there!

EDIT: I've known multiple people who splattered their brains on bikes and have gone down hard myself a couple times... motorcycles are great fun BUT don't fvck around or they'll bite you.

Roughly where do you live?

I suggest whatever you buy you try on first... proper fit is critical.

If you DO decide to go despite the rain-potential, approach EVERY move you make as if you are riding on ice. (the bike will come out from underneath so fast you won't see it go if you don't)

I live south Houston Captante.

Unless its pouring rain when I get there to get the bike I'm going through with it. I don't care if I have to limp home at 40 mph. But I do want a helmet now that it will likely be raining at least a little during the trip, possibly a lot.

Don't do it. I saw a delivery driver on a scooter eat it in light rain.

He was driving something <250cc, and probably had much more experience than you.

Too late for today, but you really need to consider a full set of protective gear. I live by 'all the gear, all the time' (ATGATT) when I ride. Proper gear can be the difference between shaking off a minor incident and going to the emergency room. Yes it can be hot when you're not moving, but I'd rather get sweaty than risk road rash or worse. The right gear can really help.

Definitely get at least a helmet for today. Maybe not the best prices, but you've probably got a Cycle Gear somewhere close by. Any motorcycle shop should have them.

LOL........ NO. I wouldn't be caught dead on one of those things. This is like a Triumph Scrambler. 800 something CCs. Looks like it will be a fun ride!!!
I don't know squat about such things but I thought you only only quoted CCs for 2 cycles, but that's a little beefy for a 2 cycle. Pretty beef for a 4 stroke too. That's a lot of power. Don't let it get away from you. There's a fine line between a wheely and a wipe out.

I gotta say, some of you have some big, bangin' brass ones. I don't even like driving in high speed traffic in my dainty little Civic Si. So I usually pump it up to about 90 leave all the boogers in my wake. Hahaha - kidding. I don't that very often. But sometimes the adrenaline overtakes my chicken shit nature. Livin' on the edge. Hahaha.

Go to any motorcycle dealer. A helmet isn't something you buy online anyway. It must fit properly.

Yeah, but who wants to wear some else's sweat-soaked helmet? Gross.

LOL! Gross a little bit, but that was the LAST thing on my mind out on the driving range - the 100 degree heat with no shade and no place to hide freaking KILLED ME.

If you ride without a helmet under ANY circumstances it's a foolish decision.

If you ride without a helmet AS A NOVICE I sincerely hope you've already filled out your organ-donor card.

You ARE going to go down.... maybe not today and hopefully not seriously but I can 100% promise you this. Be prepared.

MY last bike was a 1300cc Suzuki sport-bike with a 160 mph top speed.

This is not actually mine pictured but nearly identical... I had a custom header, a Corbin saddle and a pair of Metzler's. (also a small highway-bar)
