Genome@home installation problem?

Hey. I want to help out TA@Genome, but I'm having installation problems. If I double click the installation program (ghclient099_win.exe), it works for a few seconds, I see an unpack, the Genome@home graphic comes up. I then see the actual installation program for a fraction of a second, then it disappears and nothing else happens. Why is it crashing without warning right here? I can't seem to install because of this.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've heard about this problem before... but to remember that the fix was...

...so it's just more or less random suggestions...

If XP, try compability mode on the exe
Try emptying the temp-folder, try reboot, if NT/win2k/xp log in as admin (do not use run-as-user).
Another suggestion, try installing in safe mode.
If you've got another machine, or is dual-booting, install here.

Hopefully some of this works.

Thanks 🙂. Worked like a charm.

One question: How do I get it to the task bar or something? It's just a minimized prompt right now and annoying the heck out of me 😀

I guess you're using the computer in your sig, running XP?
If so, I guess you can install FireDaemon and run genome as a service.
Running as service is the easiest way atleast, since you don't even need to login. 🙂

Thanks for the cool program, but it still runs it in a full size window, and is doing about the same as my start-up folder right now. I haven't figured out how to throw it in the system tray. Any suggestions on how do get it to run in the tray or use this program more effectively? The site isn't totally explanitory.

To use FireDaemon, look on this guide...
First, make sure Genome is correctly installed, and is downloading data as it should.
Make sure to remove the genome@home.lnk from the Startup-folder, and make sure Genome isn't running.

After installing FireDaemon v1.5 ARC4 + UI, execute "FireDaemon Service Manager" from the start-menu.

Then here, hit New...
Under Program, fill in
Short Name: Genome
Display Name: Genome
Description: Genome command line
Console application: v (remember to enable this)
Working Directory: c:\program files\genome@home
Executable: c:\program files\genome@home\ghclient.exe
Parameters: Leave blank, or use -nonet

Hit Install, and click OK, and Close.

If successful install, you should now see this line...
FireDaemon Service: Genome Running Automatic

If you've got this line, hit Exit, and you shouldn't need to do anything, except if you've included -nonet. If you've got a permanent internet-connection, using -nonet shouldn't be necessary.
