Generic XP wireless connection manager?

When my parents come to visit, my Dad's laptop constantly gets kicked off of my wireless router. It's something on his end b/c other wireless clients can connect just fine. He's just using Windows to "manage" his wireless.

As long as I've had wireless it's been with a Thinkpad, and I've always used IBM's Access Connections, which allows me to manually specify which access point to connec to. I'd like to install a connection manager on his machine, but I'm having trouble finding a generic one.

Any ideas?

The connecting and disconnecting, and AP jumping is controlled by the wireless NIC driver. See if there is an update.

what kind of card does he have? Pretty much all cards come with some sort of app. Older broadcoms (read-less then 2 months or so) realy heavily on the XP WZC still.

chances are, if you get an updated driver, you can also get an up to date utility designed for your card.

It's an IBM card, which I'm sure is a rebranded someting. I found I updated the drivers, but that didn't do anything. I installed the Client Software at this link but when you choose to add a new profile it takes you to the XP wireless configuration window. Which is what I'm trying to avoid.

It's a broadcom based card, it uses pieces of the WZC. You should stil be able to do it all, just keep looking. Also, because it shares pieces, it LOOKS like the WZC without actually BEING wzc.

Your dad's computer is probably trying to use 802.1x authentication on his wireless card. Check the advanced tab on his network card and make sure that's disabled.
