I was looking to upgrade my Compaq Presario 6000(Staples Hot Deal) by adding a stick of 512 meg pc2100 ddr ram. My pc has only 128 meg pc2100 right now. I want to use Kingston valueRam, which is Kingston's generic ram, but I was told you can not use any generic ram in a brand name pc. Two different Kingston people told me this.

Is this true or do thy just want me to spend more $$$ on the brand name ram?
I am a N00b but have been doing some surfing/reading and never heard of this.

I bought Kingston regular ram for compaq pc, it costs double of Kingston Valueram, it's company's money, so I don't care.
The Kingston regular ram is same as Valueram, just with different sticker,
Kingston only has memory selector for regular ram but Valueram, so you won't get compatibility guarantee for Valueram.

You should consider Crucial, since its memory selector is for all.
