Most of us got our first computer and it was most likely a case with a PSU included....
because we knew no better other than the case had a PSU included so we thought that was cool......after it saved us money$$$$$

What I thought would be interesting to find out is what PSU came with your case and how long did you use the generic PSU before upgrading or are you still using the same PSU???

I for one had an OKIA 350 come bundled with my case...
I still have that PSU and the computer is somewhere in the garage!!

I have since upgraded to PC Power & Cooling and I use those PSU`s in all my riggs.
No the noise hasn`t bothered me but for soem reason I have misplaced my hearing aid!!

But I still have the OKIA and YES it still works!!

Peace!!!

I had a Uneec or something like that....330W or so. I changed it when I could hear my fans slow down when I turned on my cold cathodes....

Instead of swapping the OKIA .
I decided to build a new computer...

I still marvel at how little power it took to run a computer back in the days.

Peace!!

It still doesn't take typically over 300W...

I found an old HP case in the dumpster about 5 or six years ago. It had a Lite-On PSU (200 watt if my memory serves me). I used that case for an old KT-133 setup. It still runs fine for one of my kids, but there not much computing power needed for a seven year-old!!:D

Lite-On is a respected provider of power supplies. Many a Dell is powered by Lite-On.

yeah -- good find!!
I still can`t believe how many generic power supplies that are even years old are still puttering like a charm. Especially when for the most part they are just thrown together without much thought to longevity or workmanship!!

Looks like you found yourself a real treasure in that dumpster 5 years ago!!
Peace!!!

When I was building a gaming rig 2 years ago, I bought a case which came with 430W Deer :D The amazing thing is, this boy still somehow maganes to run: 2 video cards in SLI mode, 2 hard drives, an X-fi, 2 media drives, an aftermarket cooler and even holds a 600Mhz overclock for my Athlon 64 :) The only bad part is that it makes a high pitched noise which I've already gotten used to over the years, but still, it's pretty noticeable. I guess I'm lucky.

i was with you until you mentioned the aftermarket cooler. thats just too much for a 430w, nevermind a deer...

I had a L&C piece of crap PSU from a rosewill case that was used for a spare. It got put in my little brother's PC and was fine for awhile. Unfortunately it started acting up and it toasted his 9800pro he had saved up for awhile and spent all his money on :( Found the 12V rail would slowly increase under load until it must have been over 13V (when I tested it I pulled the plug when I saw it at 12.7V and increasing), and the 5V rail wasn't exactly very happy either. Then I found out exactly how crappy that PSU really was. I bought my bro a replacement 9800 pro and put an old 250W FSP unit and everything was fine.

I have a PSU that came with a $30 foxconn case running an A64 3700+. A little better built unit though than that L&C thing and it has been holding up fine.

Some bundled PSUs are more generic than others... Antec's new bundled PSUs are mostly made by Seasonic (and the bundles aren't particularly cheap), you can find Sparkle/Fortron in some Athenatech and Evercase and relabeled in AOpen cases, HEC in compucase. Then there are L&C and Okia - the less said about them the better. If you're spending much less than $50. for your case and PSU, you can't be expecting a decent PSU.

heh-heh...I'm STILL running the POS Aspire 500 watt PS that came with my case 4 years ago. I'm getting ready to upgrade to a more stable unit however. Looking seriously at the PC P&C units.

I used Inwin cases for years because they came bundled with rebadged Fortron psu's... That's no longer true, but their current models are decent quality, anyway- It's the reason they're a few dollars more than generic crapola, and worth the difference, imo...
