For a normal user (read me), is there a noticeable difference between just using generic, inexpensive PC100 RAM, and name brand (Corsair, Mushkin, etc) PC133 RAM?

If you think there is a big difference, give me an example of what it would be and how apparent it would be.

Thanks,

Adam

umm 30% or more? corsair and muskin pc133 is cas 2, that along should bring up performance by a lot... some people think generic is the same as name brand since the chips are from the same maker, but i tend to think differently

I think the difference between the Generic and Name brand memory is the manufaturer of the PC board the memory chips are soldered to. Where you get into trouble here, is in the tolerances that the "Generic" manufacturer puts on trace widths and thicknesses and general board layout, both things that can drastically effect the timing of the memory. I would guess that there are some generic PC100 and PC133 memory boards out there that lie on low end of the PC100 or PC133 spec, where as something coming from Mushkin has had a little more engineering put into it. That additional engineering is the difference between a generic PC133 that can do 140Mhz tops and a Mushkin PC133 that can do 150Mhz+

And, as always in electronics manufacturing and engineering, there are no two boards alike

EDIT:
in regaurd to CAS 2 vs CAS 3, have any of you experienced a "significant" difference in performace between the two. I haven't
